And then there’s the “Anyone else feel bored playing this game, there’s nothing to do.” people.

A common “problem” with plot lines that deal with a ticking clock.
*Hey I know I’m dying in a few weeks but let’s do some side quests and go on dates and work on my fashion*
Or
*The dark army is approaching and slaughtering people by the hundreds every day. But let’s go fishing!*
But if the gameplay is great, like here, then it doesn’t matter too much to me.

Also, the amount of clothing I went out of my way to buy.
Even though V is dying.

This is all far more realistic way of dealing with only having a couple weeks to live. Suicide missions and blowing all of your cash on some last minute fun. But also a problem with the narrative of open world games in general.
Daniel_Raizen
That is definitely not me. I get my best cars by copleting gigs and focus my money entirely on cyberware and firearms.
Besides, I play the game the proper way. But doing NCPD stuff first, then sidequests. Leaving the main stuff for last.
The sense of urgency is nothing but a faint feeling, specially considering >!V pretty much never finds a way to survive!<.
HisNameIsSTARK
Felt the exact same way with all the gwent games in Witcher 3. But I love open world, love epic main quests, and love small, intimate side quests. So I just have to live with the fact that sometimes the priorities seem off lol
SaintsBruv
And this is why I insis CDPR should have said V had a year or so: It’s still too little time to make you feel like you gotta hurry to find a solution, but it also gives you enough time to justify why V can ‘waste’ time meeting people, running gigs and having the luxury to do NCPD’s jobs for them.

If I’m going down, I’m going down as the fuckin’ *man*, I’m going down as *HIM.*

Tbh he probably doesn’t say anything cause he’s so damn impressed with the insane amount of shit v is getting done. Like a sort of “I’ll let v have their moment”.

It even depends from game to game.
In CP2077 you really can’t avoid the ticking time bomb with the way the story is set up by locking 80% of the map behind the Act 1, where you are forced to walk around with Johnny if you want to properly explore the map.
In a game like Skyrim you can easily just do the mandatory intro scene and tutorial quest and go your own way afterwards without ever being confronted with the ticking time bomb world saving needed problem, making the intro stuff look like nothing more than a freak incident.

Idk who else got this advertisement from a medical facility in one of the evelators, but there was a clip about a cure for heavenly brain damage that costs an insane amount of money that could actually heal the damage from on of the Phantom Liberty endings

“My adopted daughter Ciri is being pursued by the Wild Hunt, but I just picked up a bunch of contracts and I heard about a gwent tournament in Novigrad…”
Geralt of Rivia, probably

Time is relative. lol
xenox2137
well tbf the plot takes place during at least few months and as you can’t expect that every day will bring you some new idea on how to save your life, you might as well fuck around with some gigs, new clothes, cars, meeting interesting people just to pass time
JerbearCuddles
This is literally the case with almost every RPG to ever exist.
CrazyCat008
Wish they put that ‘I will die’ later in the game, feel bad whatever I do. XD
Darthlord_Juju
This is why I strongly feel that cyberpunk would of made an incredible “railroad” fps action game. Just a point to point adventure.
Just force the player to go thru the story and any relevant side quests only. Then open the world up after completing the story which is when you can start doing the side quests and NPCs etc.
Still an incredible game don’t get me wrong. But if it was like the last of us or something, just completely focused on the story I think it could of gone down as the greatest game ever right from the jump if they could of buttoned up the glitches more which is entirely plausible as making a story driven game vs an open world game seems to be to have less things to worry about PLUS they could of added tons more detail to things along the way.
Sufficient_Issue_379
Personally, not a fan of the plot tbh
ODST_Parker
Don’t know why people aren’t capable of separating story from gameplay. You have to think of the story in terms of “canon” compared to all the weird shit you’re allowed to do in the game itself.
Same reason V isn’t a gibbering mess drowning in a pool of his own vomit after installing every piece of cyberware in existence. That ain’t how the story takes your gameplay decisions into account.

Open world with a time clock on the main plot just Does. Not. Work.
I love the game but it takes some crazy head-caonnons to make this shit work.. Same with RDR2 and again I LOVE that game
Soulless_conner
I hate the false sense of urgency the game puts you in
Wojtek704
The feelings of urgency is a great narrative tool… if you try to tell normal story that you control flow of time not your audience… It works in scripted action games like The last of us or FPS like CoD but not so much in open world rpg’s. Tbh IMHO this is one of biggest story problems in CP2077… This disconnections between what happens to V and what V actually is doing. Imo in open world rpg’s or in other games wherever player controls flow of time if you really need to give state of urgency you ether give hard time limit (like in fallout 1 you have 150days to find waterchip) or you give some vague time limit like “V relic is a bomb but i dont know if it will explode in 1h or in 20 years but it WILL eventually kill you…” and then as story progres after few seizures (right before end mistions) Victor save your live and tells you that he knows when you will die… soon very soon… you have like week… “and then point of no return happens that you just follow scripted ending depending on your choices from before

Jokes on you I only use Jackie’s arch because it can fit between other cars on the road and goes fast as fuck

Yea shit, you know what, if I knew I’m likely to die soon – and surviving will be against the odds – I’m damn well gunnu live life to the full as well!
So yea, seems pretty realistic to me 🤷♀️😂

I really wish Vic said “You only have a few months at best to get this sorted out. The chip’s processes seem to come in waves, so relic attacks will come and go.” Or something
mwhite5990
My justification is they know they can’t screw up like in Konpecki so they do the gigs to gain the money, experience, and chrome necessary to take on Arasaka.
