Wolfenstein 2009 I believe people just forgot about. I enjoyed playing this though a few years after it came out. While the story was mediocre, the gunplay and the customization was amazing. What’s your opinion on it?

    “underrated”?

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

Civvie11 did a video on it recently, it really is a bit underrated probably, or misundestrood even as a “modern” (for the release time) Wolfenstein.

Surely it’s a shame Raven is locked behind Cod gulags nowadays.

Having played all the games in the series, Return to Castle Wolfenstein will always be my favorite.

I’ve only seen one review of this game, and the reviewer found it so obnoxiously safe and dull he did his review in limerick form just to make it more interesting.

Maybe it looks better nowadays in comparison to the endless stream of functionally identical military shooters and sandboxes, but it’s still not very good.

I can’t play any modern wolfenstein games without getting instant motion sickness.  No other FPS game does this to me.  Even other Id Tech games don’t do it.

Something about how they handle the FOV is just very wonky.

Yesss. I do not understand why that game got so much “meh” to hate reactions.

I skipped it at first due to the reviews, then played the demo, loved it, got the full game, still mostly loved it. Most importantly, it plays and moves so well, like the other id engine games. But is just fun overall.

I remember people being salty about it being “open world” like was the trend of the era, but 1) It’s… Not really open world anyway, so I don’t really get that criticism, 2) it’s just reviewers who play a hundred+ of games a year being jaded.

For normal people who only have time to play a few games, this issue really doesn’t apply. Even if I’d play just a few games in 2009, this would be near the top of my pile.

Btw I don’t quite get the hype about the newer Wolf reboot. I prefer this one.

I’m a lifelong Id gamer, as in I’ve been playing Wolfenstein since finding it on one of the 286 PC clones at my parents office.

I remember finally achieving “High Detail” in Doom with a 2MB VRAM upgrade to an S3 Trio64 GPU.

I played the Quake demo after I’d read about it in a magazine. I’ve played through every game Id or related has ever made.

Never in my life had I heard of Wolfenstein 2009. So, when I’m watching the latest Civvie, I felt the final stages of some new melding of my universe with another. This is yet another Berenstein/Berenstain moment.

Currently 80% through the game. It’s good. From a visual standpoint it totally holds up. In fact, I feel like some of it may even have informed some of the latest in the franchise. Gameplay mechanics don’t feel like a Wülf game to me, but the weapons check out.

It’s literally from another dimension. At least, distinct from the one I was in. Thank you Civvie!
