Had a brief thunderstorm and one struck close to my property. Saw some particles on the floor that looked like roof insulation and thought someone fucked up then I noticed the hole in the wall just above my pc.

Most items on network fried. POE switch, 2x access points and a few odds and ends. 2 screens definitely dead.

Light on mobo working, kb and mic powered via USB, but pc wont start. I honestly just hope its the PSU, but due to the other items on network I suspect more.

Atleast the P1S on the same power circuit survived. Feeling very sorry for myself.

Were any of the devices plugged into a surge protector? They don’t do jack shit against lightning, but many surge protectors offer warranties that cover surge damage.

My home took a lightning strike back in August. My PC would even turn on. Home insurance adjustor came out and totaled it. I payd a local PC shop $120 to diagnose it and turns out it was the mobo that took the hit.

The lightning entered a coax, went to the modem and melted the inside, through ethernet to router melting the ethernet port, followed ethernet, again, to the PC where it melted the ethernet port on the i/o.

So, had the tech replace the mobo. PC worked great for about 6 weeks and then started getting video drops and the GPU shit the bed. EVGA RMA’d it.

About 2 weeks after the PSU took a shit, too, and Seasonic RMA’d that.

All my drives and fans survived, but the Lian Li fan controller melted, lol.

Here’s the thing, though, although I got the PC up and running, the home insurer still totaled it and paid to replace all the items in the case, including the case. Ended up getting a 7800X3D, 4090 FE for less than $250 after compensation for the 10700K and 3080 that they covered.

Sounds like it’s the psu, in my experience when the cpu went bad the kb & m wouldn’t get power. Good luck friend

If you had a surge protector and a semi decent PSU, you’re computer should be fine. Just you’re PSU should be messed up.

Man I hate to see that. All of our worst fears. Except the weird side panel people. Tile floors are their biggest fear.
