I took the cartridge out of a bic pen (you know the ones you find in boxes of 50-100), and cut it at the exact length I needed and it works great, the semi translucent nature goes well with the rgb

Pretty sure gigabyte comes with its own brace. Hence the two holes on the side of the GPU (one visible in the picture)

I wouldn’t say poor man’s, I would say smart man’s. A GPU support you buy usually won’t have more adjustability then this and just looks better so if you don’t give a shit about looks I would say this is exactly what you want but free.
I’d probably electrically insulate it though, maybe a rubber disc/washer on each end that’s making contact

These are pretty much what you buy online for adjustable GPU holders. Maybe just add some sort of rubber tips on both ends to prevent damage or chipping and some vibration dampening.
