After [this post that got removed](https://www.reddit.com/r/overclocking/comments/196su73/intel_is_the_most_efficient_cpu_121314gen/) about intel having the most efficient CPUs, that quoted [this video of der8auer](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H4Bm0Wr6OEQ&t=1009s) i thought I’d try some testing on my own, and see if i could go down with the power consumption ever further.

[P: 5.3, E: 3.8, R: 4.7, @ 1.1 V, @ 200 W](https://preview.redd.it/dt16b89s06dc1.png?width=1548&format=png&auto=webp&s=53a8d8f0243324332421dba0fbe9e78982a92f43)

Regarding gaming performance, it should be [about equal as a 13700k](https://youtu.be/vd2V7emO8Es?t=829) with [about equal clock speeds](https://www.intel.de/content/www/de/de/products/sku/230500/intel-core-i713700k-processor-30m-cache-up-to-5-40-ghz/specifications.html).

Arguing the efficiency in gaming, i can’t benchmark like those youtubers. But just as der8auer tested, my power consumption in BF2042 (a very CPU heavy game) dropped from \~120 w to \~65-70 w average

If we would compare this to a 5800X3D, (13700k is faster), this would be [about equal power consumption](https://youtu.be/9WRF2bDl-u8?t=683). So op from the deleted post was right… it is indeed more efficient than a 5800X3D….

BUT (before this post gets deleted from the mods as well??) there is a biiig BUT!:

It’s only more efficient, if you compare to last gen AMD AND if you tune the highest binned CPU (14900k) with a heavy underclock and undervolt!

  1. For my part, I don’t have a 4090 (waiting for real next gen), and therefore am happy with the low power consumption. I’ll stay at those settings.

Regarding stability: It’s stable everywhere except Y-cruncher Small FFT, there it crashes sooner or later. (Im expecting the “than it’s not stable” comment 😉 keep them coming, despite overclockers like buildzoid and der8auer having the same opinion as me)

What good is this really? It’s the same argument as “X CPU is faster than Y if you overclock X, but don’t overclock Y. Also, only if you compare it to their last gen. Also also, it needs to be binned and heavily tuned. But you can play this game down the line.

No, no they are not. You’re absolutely not playing fair and I feel like this whole thing is just trying to make intel out to be a winner in a category that they are just plain not. Their CPUs are not “the most efficient CPUs”
