**TLDR;** Extension that bypasses YouTube ads, and is fully undetectable by their system. Works on every browser out there, with Safari support on the way. All links are at the bottom of the post
Hi everyone. I am web dev with over 6 years of experience in the field.
Last year I created [https://adskipper.me](https://adskipper.me), a browser extension that will skip YouTube ads automatically. After seeing that it works without an issue, and since I saw that uBlock is failing steadily (I am not hating, I am just stating the fact that more and more users have issues with it, including me), I decided to put it up on Chrome and Firefox web stores, and make it open source on GitHub (link below)
It is not working as regular ad blocker, but it rather skips them fully. Logic is really really simple. If ad is playing, just set current time to full ad length and click the Skip Ad button automatically.
This means that YouTube will see the ad as loaded and watched, but you as a user won’t see it, so in my opinion it is (almost) undetectable, and as long as ads work in certain ways, it will remain undetectable. Even if they somehow bypass it I already have few more different ways to make it work. It doesn’t remove all ads from YouTube which makes it much less intrusive and suspicious.
Currently it supports skipping ads on YouTube and removing Shorts (I hate shorts). I am in the process of adding new websites and creating more features (blocking videos from certain channels, researching ways to make it work on YouTube for Android, adding local statistics (how many ads skipped, how much time saved) etc..). If you have any ideas or features you’d like to see, I am more than happy to hear them. If you want to see all available options Right Click on extension > Options. You’ll find everything there.
If you decide to use it, and you like it, it would be really nice to rate it on extensions stores as that would help boost it so more users can see it.

I’ll stick with uBlock origin, but thanks.
uBlock >>>
Let me just clarify.
I am not saying you SHOULD switch but that you CAN.
Software has to evolve and we need to think about new ways to solve the issues, so please if your only reply is that uBlock is superior or better, don’t write anything.
But if you have any questions, thoughts, ideas or anything like that, please DO write in the comments.
We are all on the same side
Thank you
Nice idea. However, seems it won’t block other ads, and I’d need an adblock for that, and *that* will itself trigger YT block? Is that right?
ETA – Works well. Combo of Ghostery and this = no Ads at all. Thanks!
Hell yes thank you, im going to download this as soon as i get out of bed this morning and get in the computer
Nice effort but I think the way you skip ads are fundamentally worse then fully removing them but to be fair you call it ad skipper so credits where it’s due.
I think YouTube can and will easily detect this way, that’s just my two cents tho.
But keep your personal dislike out of this extension, it’s called ad skipper not short skipper.
There are various reliable ad blocking systems, one more option doesn’t hurt anyone, thanks.
Getting an SSL error trying to access website
Does it work on twitch ?

Thanks a lot for this mate, you’re awesome
I suppose this means that the channel gets ad revenue aswell?
I personally have ublock origin working when using librewolf browser, but your extension is a great example of how youtube will never win the adblocker race as users will find a way to skip the ads. Smae with revanced, google took down vanced, revanced popped up but just without the things that googlee based their takedown on
Good to see more options exist, but I’ll stick with Ublock Origin.
I’m curious tho, how will this work with MV3?
Any chance this will expand to Apple TV, Roku, etc?
I watch the majority of YouTube on my 📺
Thanks for doing what you’re doing!
Is there any benefit of using this instead of Firefox+uBlock Origin combo?
Thank you, this is great!
Quick question, is something like this possible on Android TV’s Youtube app?
Have not tested this yet but if it does great job with yt site what people should do is
Have both Adskipper and ublock origin
Make it so that ublock origin doesnt run on youtube domain
Now you have Adskipper working in youtube and then ublock origin working in the rest of the website
I love it! Thank you
I’ll stick with Ublock origin thank you.
Just added to my edge browser. Works as expected. Thanks.
Ublock stopped working a month or two back for YouTube on edge. So I had to disable it in YouTube site.
Now I have ublock for other sites and your extension for YT. Having 2 diff extensions for the same task in different sites is a bit much. But hey, as long as I don’t see ads.
Ublock is not failing lmao. If YouTube detects it reload the page. If it still detects it updated your Ublock list and restart your browser.
Thank you, thank you!
This is great, I just added it and when I load a video I see the ad load right at the beginning and poof gone.
Thanks
I dont recommend publising the ad skipping algorithm
Confusing post here with conflicting info.
Works on all browsers but it currently doesn’t.
It’s undetectable but it’s not undetectable.
Ublock is failing, yet it isn’t. Shitty swipe?
6yr developer doesn’t understand why ublock/ad blockers need to update frequently to ‘work’ cause YouTube making lots of changes.
Makes it open source which means YouTube can just pop into the code figure it out and make another workaround. Back to square one.
The positive is, if any of this is useful or more undetectable then all ad blockers will integrate it within a few weeks anyway.
For now, I’ll keep using what’s been working, I mean new options are always welcomed.
Yeah to be fair I don’t mind banner ads an all that . I come from the early 2000’s internet so that pretty normal . !75 video ads are ridiculous… this is not television. I shouldn’t have to watch ads for a 2:17 minute video cough cough YouTube
I know you get many Notifications rn, just wanted to ask (cant look it up rn) is it available on Opera GX?
Bookmarked for now, will use when uBO stops working on YT again.
The github link on the Firefox extension page doesn’t work. I would really like to look at the code
