Maybe comparing the performance of those two cards will finally convince yall that VRAM isn’t the be-all end-all in the realm of graphics cards.

Why is Nvidia GeForce RTX 3050 better than AMD Radeon RX 580?

    432MHz faster GPU clock speed

    1552MHzvs1120MHz

    3 TFLOPS higher floating-point performance

    9.1 TFLOPSvs6.1 TFLOPS

    42.4 GPixel/s higher pixel rate

    85.3 GPixel/svs42.9 GPixel/s

    20W lower TDP

    130Wvs150W

    Supports ray tracing

6000MHz higher effective memory clock speed

    14000MHzvs8000MHz

    511MHz faster GPU turbo speed

    1777MHzvs1266MHz

    Supports DLSS

    – just the facts

Also, the RTX 3050 6GB has a crippled memory bus, lower clock speeds, and crippled power limits. If it’s actually priced $180, I guess it’s something to consider in a low power build. AMD’s upcoming Ryzen 8000-series desktop APUs would be a decent alternative for budget/low-power builders. If someone needs an NVIDIA GPU, then an ASUS Dual RTX 3060 12GB goes for $285 on Newegg, which is a much better graphics card.

Polaris recently got moved to legacy status by AMD (at least on Windows, mesa on Linux is going to support for probably the next 20 years, heh), so there’s that…

  5. Jon-Slow

I’m pretty sure the 3050 also has 8gb with 128bit bus and is also like 20% faster than the rx580 even before DLSS.

As someone who views this sub from afar you’re all crazy. I got a midline pc like 7 years ago and it still runs most new games on high settings at a high frame rate. How tf do you people afford all this constant new shit? Isn’t it *all* unnecessary?

  7. DisgustinglyAwsome

And when scaling down from the 3050 8GB it’s even 10% slower than the RX580, which makes it even more ridiculous. (According to Techpowerup.)

  8. Oh no entry level gpu doesn’t have more vram than a higher end gpu that was advertised for 1440p gaming back in it’s time.

  9. My msi 1080 has more lmao. But isnt the quality of the vram a big part aswel? Not a expert on that

  10. I played on my rx 580 4 gb at 1080p until this summer when i upgraded to the rx 6700xt. I don t get why all of the sudden people consider vram the most important aspect of a gpu while for the 5 or so years that i ve used my old gpu i didn t have issues with vram once

  11. Catch_022

Considering my 10gb 3080 is apparently crap according to Reddit because of such a tiny amount of ram, this seems like a huge mistake.

  12. is 12gb vram good enough for 1440p?
prolly getting a rtx 4060 super

  13. Grouchy_Advantage739

“OMG IT DOESN’T HAVE 48GB OF VRAM FOR GAMING REEEEE!!!!11!!”

  14. Galactic_Hiatus

Been comfortable with 70+ frames with an RX580 on BG3 honestly…….

  15. SRFoxtrot341_V2

RTX 3050 6GB might still be a good option for those looking for a brand new, low power and somewhat performing GPU that does not require any power connectors. Great for Optiplex PC’s but might still be quite expensive for what it is.

And it is only a matter of time when RX 580 driver support comes to an end.

  16. Donmiggy143

I mean? At that point you might as well just plug the cable into your motherboard and be done with it.

  17. Flash24rus

I really want to look at RX580 owners using all of their 8GB of VRAM at 60fps.
