There was a lot of discussion between the devs when they were creating those characters. But basically, Panam and River are Native American. Panam and River: [https://www.forbes.com/sites/paultassi/2022/01/24/cyberpunk-2077-reveals-two-of-its-main-characters-are-actually-native-american/?sh=285ccf8265e0](https://www.forbes.com/sites/paultassi/2022/01/24/cyberpunk-2077-reveals-two-of-its-main-characters-are-actually-native-american/?sh=285ccf8265e0)

This representation is a breath of fresh air. It’s about time our media portrayed Native Americans in diverse roles, showing that they’re very much a part of our modern world and will continue to be in the future. It’s breaking down stereotypes and celebrating the cultures that continue to thrive and evolve. Cyberpunk 2077 does a great job at this, and it’s definitely a step in the right direction for gaming and media representation! 🌐

The inclusion of Native American characters like Panam and River in a futuristic setting is amazing. It moves away from the stereotypical representations we often see in media, where Native Americans are depicted in historical or traditional contexts.

Panam’s race in particular was speculated about for a while among Cyberpunk fans, but usually the idea among fans was that she was afro-latino or half-white, not Native American. However, the game devs confirmed that she is a native American.

So, when you go out with them, you’re dating Native Americans.

Fuck yeah. Representation matters. Going Native American and not making a big stereotypical mess of it is classy af of CDPR.

As a Latino I love all the random casual Spanish speaking in the game. Makes it feel like it’s just the world and not some weird special thing.

  2. TheBullyFrog

Wait till you find out that Dakota is native American

Representation is pretty well done in cyberpunk tbh. Badass characters of every race and it’s not shoehorned or unnatural.

Never would’ve guessed correctly she was Native American. Always thought she was half-black half-white judging from first glance

I do love that all the love interests are diverse. You have a Filipino, a Latina, and two Native Americans.

  6. Cyberpunk is a great example that you can have diversity in-game without making it a woke mess.

Jacki is one of the most likable characters of all times imo

  7. ChicanoPartisano

Who tf thought Panam was Afro Latina? Lmao

  8. bearsheperd

Eh, maybe but with several generations of mixed ancestry

  9. Proton_Optimal

Cool. What ethnicity is Adam Smasher?

  10. Pir8Cpt_Z

Yeah, the Navajo nation is also represented in the ttrpg cyberpunk red core rule book.

River does say that his family is Pomo at one point.

  12. Dsible663

Yeah, so? They’re folk just like anyone else.

  13. shabba182

Is this news? I was already under the impression that Panam was at least part Native American

  14. dbrasco_

I knew Panam was Native American but thought River was black. The more you know…..

    Neat!

Both great characters and ig this is like the icing on the cake

  16. Pretty cool to learn this a few years ago. Tommy from Prey (2006) was my first and probably only exposure to a Native American in a cyberpunk setting.

I dont care about Panams ethnicity, I care about her character. And her character is what I’m here for.

I figured that in the future everyone is sort of a mixed race, with all the cyber augmentation race wouldn’t be an issue anymore. Even the redneck gangs are multicultural, unlike how it really is in America with the militia types. Cyberpunk is kinda nice in that regard.

As a Native American, I could tell based on her attitude that she was native. They did a good job representing strong fierce fire that I’ve seen in native women. If you grew up in the rez you’d be able to tell haha.

  20. Electronic_Mistake82

What’s next, Judy is Latina… wait?

  21. Interesting_Ice_8498

I honestly thought Panam was black, this is pretty cool

Why this post exist?… And why this cause “A lot of discussion”!?? 🤔🤔

  23. Mustard_on_tap

Why does any of this matter? Just enjoy the damn game.

  24. hshduejbev

Who gives a shit? They’re great characters.

  25. Krakengreyjoy

Op, read the date of the articles you find.

The best mod I’ve found swaps out some of the voice actors for their native language track. So Takemura speaks Japanese, for example. It’s awesome to hear that and I’d love for this to be an actual option that the devs give us in a multicultural game like cyberpunk.

I like that Panam is a CHARACTER first and a native american second, that’s how any good character should be regardless of race.

I like the representation and am glad they went that route to make something much more memorable.
