In fact, I sometimes had to downgrade in order to play some games again and it was not rare that I had less FPS after an update.

Actually why not. 1080 ti is an amazing card, but it’s starting to show her age, I mean I’m getting 1% lows under 60 fps at 1440p.
6 years is perfectly fine interval in my eyes and the recent price drop makes 4080 within my budget. Gaming is my hobby and there is no reason to not treat myself with something premium. Besides that, somebody can use my 1080 ti in his budget 1080p setup.

I mean, I am running 2 1080ti and hell its been great. The second the VRAM dies, I will just get it new and solder it on there or buy another used 1080ti for 200€ max off ebay and get that thing refreshed for 20€. They work great for anything I do and fill demands for 1080p and 1440p gaming without an issue while in total I paid less than 400€ for these 2 GPUs (was lucky).

This is where us as consumers are failing. It’s good to have choice but and it allows anyone to enter PC gaming, but people who get the next big thing shortly after the last is just screaming “I have plenty more money where that came from, so keep the $1000 cards coming”. But to be honest if I could afford it, I would do the same, so this is pretty much me throwing hate because I’m poor lol.

I’m still on i7 3770 with GTX1080 Zotac AMP Extreme, and it’s still capable of running 60FPS at 2K resolution games like Dead Island 2, Spider Man Remastered and some demanding games. And with AMD FSR I even played Last Of Us pretty comfortable on very high settings.
New stuff is just under heavy marketing. If old stuff works for your favorite games I see no reason upgrading, yeah maybe I will have bad performance in CyberPunk 2077 but who cares, it works well on ultra settings in few other games I play .
