Guy used to be a fighter can’t imagine all that head and hand damage has done em any good so the drug likely gives him a temp repair so he keep his hands steady and his brain sharp when performing surgery.

Yeah, just feel your own arm around that site, move your fingers and then wrist. Injecting something to stabilize in the area itself only makes sense. Unfortunately, he is a busy man, so repeated injections in the same area can’t heal.
