ASUS is going strong on the BTF “cableless” products. Notice the lack of cables in the GPU. Power is fed directly through the motherboard to the GPU. This specific one takes either the 12vhpwr or 3 PCIE 8 pin cables on the back of the motherboard.
What do you think? Cableless dream or potential propietary nightmare? Or somewhere in between provided case manufacturers and other GPU vendors adopt similar systems as standard?

If they make it an industry standard, I’m all for it.
But if it’s a proprietary thing that requires an Asus GPU, Asus PSU, Asus motherboard and Asus case to function, and everybody else has their own proprietary thing, fuck that. We already have enough of this garbage in Dells and HPs.

So the motherboard will be delivering upwards of 600W directly to the GPU (on top of the 75W from PCIE)? Sounds like another reason to make premium motherboards even more expensive than they already are (additional PCB layers, traces, etc.). Also, creates another point of failure on a very centralized component.
If 12VHPWR taught us anything, it’s that adopting new standards for power-hungry GPUs can lead to unintended consequences. Personally, I don’t get the fixation with minimizing cables. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!

it’s a nightmare waiting to happen, no manufacturers can even agree on what “eATX” means, I can’t imagine how much of a mess it’d be to standardize EVERY connector position on EVERY motherboard form factor and EVERY case. Cables are there to avoid this sort of shit, this concept has never had a chance

Some mobos are putting the 24 pin facing to the side among others. Or moving cpu power to right there next to the 24 pin. You could put the GPU power there and run the trace through the board, or flat behind it. There’s ways
