Yeah, Johnny’s engram (or the shard, whatever) is overwriting V’s psyche. Whatever. It’s a process, and the process is happening. (And the stupid piece of tech has never heard of ‘make sure to backup before you delete’.)
Anyway, because V’s psyche is getting deleted, in theory there’s no reversing it because nobody keeps a copy of his psyche. The ‘data’ is gone.
Okay, stay with me now. Here’s the solution.
Why not just write a program that overrides Johnny’s engram or the biochip, and tells it to…..simply freeze the process right then and there. Don’t undo anything, don’t delete the progress. Just freeze it.
What will happen then? I’ll tell you what. What’s V stays V, and what’s Johnny at this point stays Johnny. V gets to live and Johnny gets to take the wheel once in a while to keep him happy. They both go on to share the body until they die of old age. V spends the rest lf his life with either Judy or Panam.

Or just go full borg. Have V get an R.M.I Gemini full body replacement? Get engramed and just slot into the new body. Or you could go with the cloned bodies.
Pretty sure thats what happens when Alt puts V back into their own body. The problem is that V still (eventually) dies due to the damage that the chip has already caused.

I think the best explanation we got in game was that all the dead-ends and downsides are features of the tech, not bugs. The biochip was meant to overwrite someone’s psyche with the loaded engram and tge goal intent was to make it as difficult as possible, if not purely impossible, to undo. Either the old psyche accepts that fate, or they fight a losing battle.
I think the whole thing is the engram is broken and thus cannot receive commands only do the main function. To write engram to V’s Brain. You can’t pull it out because it’s broken. Even if you pull out it’s like you turn off a pc during the BIOS update. Will fuck your day up.
Sounds like a solution the only down side would be you give V permanent brain cancer.
It would make sense for V to have his neural network switched out to be given a second or third chance at life. Maybe a brain transplant or an implant to reverse the effects of neural degradation.

I thought the only way the chip actives is when the host dies. Isn’t V technically dead? Wasn’t Arasaka’s goal immortality through overwriting his brain to a new body?

I have a much simpler solution:
Vik can clearly parse out the data while taking care of you, meaning he could also parse out YOUR data. The process can’t be stopped and you will be overwritten….. *in your biological body*. If tech allows it, and Alt proves that it sorta does, you could pull *all* the data out and keep your consciousness around, sift through the data in a more controllable state, and use androids to act as hosts for both
Nah brother let me explain it to you. It’s like when you’re formatting a hard drive. You have different partitions but you also have different formatting types. Let’s say V’s is NTFS and Johny is exFAT. Both are ways to store data. You can read from both but you cannot write into the other partitions that are formatted in a different way because the data fomat being written is not the the same as the format it’s being written to. It’s incompatible but both can exist on the same hard drive.
Now Johny’s exFAT is slowly overtaking all the available partitions of V’s hard drive and it is killing V because his data is incompatible and doesn’t run as efficiently in exFAT and it keeps throwing errors and segfaults.
Now when ALT makes an engram of V she basically copies V’s rae data. And even if she puts V’s data back intot he exFAT hard drive it won’t run as well and over time it will degrade the data cause error handling wasn’t meant for exFAT, it was meant for NTFS.
It’s like trying to run a windows program in linux, at some point it’s gonna crash. Because it wasn’t written for that operating system etc…
Something tells me that V wouldn’t be very happy with Johnny being stuck in her head permanently lol
