AM4 is a technological dead end they say.

alot of ppl say the am4 has finaly had it’s last cpu but i think until the 8000 series drops we will continue to see more am4 and am5 cpu dropping

the x3d versions of am4 will remain relevant for a couple more years.

if amd sets the base level of 8 years of socket support can intel be held liable under EU new rules of planned obsoletion?

  4. creamcolouredDog

If AMD can support a socket for many generations, Intel should be able to as well, which means two things: the engineers are not forward-thinking enough when designing sockets, or it’s plainly planned obsolescence. I mean, they released the same Skylake CPUs for 5 years…

R5 3600X3D and R3 3300X3D coming soon, mark my words

There’s a difference between dead end and a road that has ended.

Meanwhile Intel shills will continue to say AM5 is a crap platform. Excuse me while I upgrade 4 CPU generations 8 years from now. Intel can barely support 3 “generations” of the same CPU that is just a higher clocked version of the previous generation.

Source: I went from 1600x to 5600x to 5700x and soon to 5700x3d. Never had to buy a new motherboard or RAM. Intel I would have had to upgrade the motherboard twice in the same time period.

AM4 is just never going to die, is it?

I can’t believe like 6 months after I upgrade to 5600 non-x they smack me with AM5 socket update lol, I’m at least happy this B350 Tomahawk is a trooper. I still gotta upgrade from my 5700xt though

  10. crunchyllama

I’ve got a b350 and it’s still getting BIOS updates to support the new AM4 chips. Assuming this isnt the exception I think it’ll be my last CPU upgrade on this board. I built my machine 7 years ago. . .it’s hard to believe it might last me another 3-5 years before I decide to build a new system.

It’s crazy, I built my Ryzen system in 2017 and they’re still releasing new CPUs. I could probably replace my 5700x with an X3D chip and get even more life out of it..

  12. BuZuki_ro

Wait I thought they moved to AM5 and abandoned it. Besides the microcenter 5600x3d

  13. Even if 1700 is dead if you pair it with 13700kf it will easily last for 6-8 years and allow you to upgrade gpu once or twice. Based on past 10 years X86 CPUs are advancing much slower vs GPUs.

Intel nerds having to swap boards every few years for a hotter chip. 🤣

I really, really, really hope AMD gets back to PGA socket at some point. AM5 feels like I’m using an Intel processor. Yuck.
