Mouse acceleration adds a curve to your sensitivity, some games ignore it, some don’t. it’s the “Enhance pointer precision” option, it’s ment to be unchecked.

  2. IANOVERT

I also recommend doing it, takes some time to get used to but i am much more accurate with mouse now. It took only one and half day to get used to it

  3. LiliNotACult

Would explain my weird aiming in some games.

  4. Daily? People needing to be reminded of this daily?

  5. I just realized I forgot to turn it off after my latest windows re-install some months ago. fml, that explains s lot..

  6. Sata_Tome

I never knew about this thanks for the tip

  7. lalruzaiqi

Wtf, I had it enabled it this entire time? I will test in the future…

  8. PortEvilCheese

8 years. It took me 8 years to realize that mouse acceleration has made me a worse player

  9. dermitio

Pretty sure it is not enabled by default.

But yeah if it is on it need to go away

  10. Carvieinstein

The very first thing I do when I fresh install windows.

  11. Logical_Lemming

Unless you like mouse acceleration. There’s dozens of us.

  12. TONKAHANAH

granted I dont use windows any more.. but i’ve found I really dont like it disabled. so, try it if you want but I like it on.

  13. undeadxoxo

This is a meme. If you’ve used mouse acceleration for 20 years you’re used to it and can be perfectly accurate. Your brain creates the required muscle memory and can deal with acceleration, otherwise you wouldn’t be able to drive a car.

The problem with acceleration disabled is either your precision is very high you have to move your mouse like 2 meters to go from one edge of the screen to the other, or it’s very low and thus there’s no point in having this disabled at all.

I remember when it was recommended to league of legends players like a decade ago, I tried playing with it, got hardstuck in Gold, while my friend with acceleration enabled and a basic Microsoft mouse got to top 50 rank on the EU server. If you suck it’s not your mouse settings or lack of 500hz monitor, you’re just bad at the game (like I was).

Thank you wise man, just reinstalled windows after a motherboard (and case) swap and forgot to turn it off.

  15. East_Engineering_583

why? what’s wrong with mouse acceleration? i’m completely fine with it

  16. MysteriousDrStranger

Mouse acceleration off and raw input on. Some of us like it raw, wait what?

  17. SteelSeries will actually tell you about that because it causes some issues with their software. The more you know.

  18. MikaAndroid

Eh, I’m more comfortable with it. Daily reminder to use whatever settings is most comfortable for you specifically, not what other people find comfortable.

In games I just turn on raw input, and I can’t imagine navigating the desktop without mouse accel.

  19. Clever_Angel_PL

I like it and I don’t care, it can both make turning fast and long-range shots accurate without sniper button, fight fire with gasoline

Also make sure to enable the pointer trails and change the cursor for something bulkier.

  21. NojoNinja

Most modern games disable this anyway. The only game I’ve noticed still has it as your default mouse setting is older versions of Minecraft and other games

  22. Nomnom_Chicken

Oh yeah, let’s see how I do in games now. Forgot to disable it after the latest Windows installation and have been playing more with mouse and keyboard lately, than what I usually do. Hoping this helps.

  23. K1W1-Elite

And most often then not, Windows updates will revert things like this.

  24. I may be dumb, but none of those options are mouse acceleration…

  25. AccountantOk7335

Wow so glad i saw this lmfao, just built my brother a pc and completely forgot about this

  26. Oh my god. I did a fresh windows reset a few months ago and forgot to turn this setting off. I’ve been playing with it for at least a few months now.

I wonder if my aim or skillshots can improve now that I have it off again.

Thanks OP, feels like I owe you a beer or something after that

  27. IneffectiveDamage

Just reinstalled windows and my aim is so much better. I definitely haven’t disabled this… maybe mouse acceleration is the way

  28. thebebee

is it just recently enabled by default? done a couple fresh installs lately and it was never on

  29. motionresque

oh my GOD so this is what was bugging me for over a year, ffs
    thanks a lot op!

  30. Kvas_HardBass

Holy shit, thank you. I reinstalled windows a couple months ago and forgot

  31. IntelArcTesting

This doesn’t matter for games. Basically all modern games use raw input which completely ignores the setting, if it didn’t most shooters would be really hard to play if not unplayable (trust me you will notice just turn of raw input in cs2 settings). Last time I remember that a game didn’t have it the devs added it a week or so later because of community backlash (uncharted lost legacy) and in minecraft it’s stopped working randomly in a update (got fixed pretty quick as well) but besides that can’t remember a single game since I joined the pcmasterrace im 2015 that didn’t have raw input.

  32. skdKitsune

It actually feels better with the option on (for me).

I guess I just have developed the muscle memory for it. But for the desktop experience, mouse accel is really good

  33. kaantechy

No No no no, I can’t be that dumb to keep this on for so many years.

    Going to check immediately

    edit: I m a fucking moron.

  34. KeepingIt100forLife

This is the cause or so many “framerate issues” 😆. People think it’s something with their PC when it’s this little dumb feature.

  35. Startan117

Thanks for this, I am building a new build within the next week and a half

  36. incoherent1

Looks like Enhance Pointer Precision was already set to off on my computer. I guess I can’t blame that for my terrible aiming in games….

  37. Matrix-Man-2003-MM

No thanks, mouse accelration makes my setup easier to use (I have three monitors).

  38. LoocaBazooca

I played games after games after games with that on, when I turned it off, my CS fick-shots went waaay off so yeah imma keep it on

  39. Beautiful-Musk-Ox

doesn’t matter with direct input, the game gets the mouse data directly from the mouse, not from windows
