When I bought my super light 2.3 pound Thinkbook for work, I felt like Reddit was going to cut my head off for not getting a Legion with a 150watt 3080ti

The pricing is awful but MacBooks have no competition and Microsoft is to blame. They shove ads and make their OS as complicated as possible for casual users while blocking the ARM competition with that stupid deal with Qualcomm.

Getting apple stuff for mom reminds me of a video where mom uses her iPad as chopping board or something.

I’ve always been an avid get a laptop with better specs focusing on price to performance but the M# MacBooks are kinda nuts. I picked up a m1 pro refurb during Black Friday from Microcenter for 1200 and it has blown my mind. So much power in such an efficient laptop for productivity work.

actually, as a PC guy myself I kinda like macbooks. especially the Air ones. I think they are awesome. and the price is right too. depends on your expectations of what a computer needs to do, but overall they are great machines for simple or less experienced users. like if all you do is simple homework, internet and office work or media consumption then its kinda ideal.

I buy MacBooks and will continue to buy them because I like good laptops and windows ones are all shit.

after Mac launched M series processors, when it comes to laptops they stole the cake by quite some margin. Yes they are not cheap, but there aren’t non-mac alternatives that compete with them, on performance to power-consumption.

getting anything apple when you don’t already have some other thing apple is a dumb move, especially if the mom in this case is computer iliterate
get ready to learn to deal with apple’s platform lockdowns for your mom

Macbooks are awesome.
That being said a Thinkpad (or equivalent workstation laptop) is just so much more fun for a tinkerer/techie.

If I could afford it I would absolutely buy my mom a Macbook.

I fucking love Better Call Saul. Such a slow burn show, but the payoff was incredible.
