I’ve seen those wide light bars above the monitor before I just feel like it would just be uncomfortable or just not seem right is there a benefit actually using a light bar above a monitor?

I think adding in some more color, like yellow, mixed in the back would be nice. Also, what light bar are you using? I saw in another comment you can do RGB backlight. Is that what’s casting the red?

everyone probably tired of seeing me post about the dumb light bar trend, but here I am again. I saw the photo and couldn’t help myself. this photo is a prime example of why I hate the light bars and think it’s the new tv-above-the-fireplace trend
companies spend good money engineering their monitors to have good performance in bright rooms and direct sunlight. professional reviewers even measure this sort of thing. then we save up our money to buy a nicer monitor that has better color accuracy and contrast ratio and viewing angle, then buy a light bar because we saw everyone else doing it, then shine it directly at our poor screens washing the image out and making it look like garbage
not a big deal if you use it when you aren’t using the computer, but while the computer is on, it seems too compromised. even if you didn’t care about the screen washing out, many models I’ve noticed don’t have any sort of guides of the light so if you recline back in your chair, you can see the light source directly, which defeats the point of having indirect soft lighting
fixes:
– throw in garbage
– mount to back of monitor and aim it at the back wall for indirect lighting
– 3d print light guides to break line of sight with both the user and the screen, so light only reaches the top of the desk (cars do this with HID headlights, they have a “shelf” that blocks light so it won’t go up to eye level and blind oncoming cars
– give to someone you hate
ok I’m being a little facetious, but really though, look at this photo OP, your poor monitor doesn’t deserve this (it doesn’t actually hurt the monitor; I’m just harassing you for fun)

Anything that reduces your eyes ability to resolve what’s on the screen will cause eye strain. There is a reason you don’t have a light bar on your visor in your car.
Can the light be turned off? Is it needed to illuminate your keyboard?
Bottom line, it’s your workstation. If you like it, then to each their own
