As a windows gamer, i really appreciate what linux and dxvk did for game preservation. DXVK is so good that it’s worth using on windows with most older games these days. Literally saved classic games.

Windows is like the epitome of supporting old shit that really needs to be dropped for compatibility reasons so I’m not sure what you’re on about. Dx8 (and probably earlier) even still works on Windows 11, hell even directdraw technically functions though not terribly well without newer replacement dlls for some games (like c&c).
Those old apis are kind of shit with new hardware (and vice versa), and games get cobbled together with all sorts of hacks that sometimes don’t play nice on top of that. DXVK is great for fixing that because it converts everything to a modern more efficient standard, but Microsoft and removal of old APIs don’t frequently go in the same sentence.
Also you can run DXVK on Windows, it’s just not officially supported as far as I know. If your old game works with it it’s the way to go for the most part.

DXVK straight up made Dragon’s Dogma work when it became a massive broken mess on my PC. Dropped the DLL in the game folder, and everything worked.

Removal of support does not mean they will stop you from using it. You can still run DOS games in windows ffs.

Copyright protection needs to be limited to 30 years. If you register your copyright and as a part of the registration application release a substantial part of your source material you get another ten years. You get the additional renewals of ten years if your revenue in the previous 10 years exceeds 10% of lifetime revenue. Patent and copyright law exists to foster knowledge not limit it. The basic problem needs to be fixed.
