oh thats messed up. yeah people often buy cpus and than return them back with a different cpu inside. guess you became a victim of that

someone bought a new cpu and returned their old cpu for the money back, amazon minimum wage employee doesnt check .
this happens all the time at every retailer.
Always double check the seller. If it’s a random Chinese name or has very few product reviews it’s most likely a scam
So what happens to the person who did this scam? Do they even investigate? Seems like an endless amount of money for people who do this as I have yet to hear them getting busted.
be glad that it still works in the lga 1700 socket. if all else fails and you’re stuck with it. that’s a pricey i3 that ain’t trash just not $600 good.
It might just be a mistake. Just ask for a return. Shouldnât have problems with amazon. At least I could return items with no problem

My bet is on Amazon scam.
Looks like the old classic of buy something new, return it with a broken object of the same or a lesser version of the same. Amazon donât even check half the time.
Iâve only admittedly done that once with an iron I bough for $20. It broke after 33 days and the shop wouldnât take it back after 30 days and said I had to go to the manufacturer for warranty. Manufacturer would replace it but had to send it in. Shipping was $27 and they refused to cover shipping costs.
Exact reason I only buy from Amazon direct as the seller and not a marketplace seller.
I also cap my limit at $150ish max as thatâs my limit where if I get scammed, I wonât be happy but I wonât sit there getting pissed every day for a month about it.
For cpu components, Iâd try and buy in person from a store direct personally if you are able. Can open it there and then and check as we see this so much on stuff like this.

This is part of an amazon refund, somebody buys the product, replaces it with a cheaper cpu, sends the replaced item back, gets a refund and keeps the original item.
My guess is that if the return looks unopened or untouched the seller especially if its amazon probably go by weight and probably won’t open the packaging, they’ll just relist it and move on.
Contact the seller and show them images of the product you’ve received.

Notice how this is clearly sold by a 3rd party(pc parts sales). Unless theyâre a reputed seller, I wouldnât bet on any of them.

At this point Iâm buying in store at bestbuy or ordering from a reputable company AWAY from Amazon.
Going to be in the market for a new cpu, board and ram in a couple of months. Not going to risk a 14700 or 14900.

You bought it from a 3rd party seller on Amazon which means the reliability is entirely on that seller, not Amazon. Start a refund request through Amazon support and see what they say.
this has happened to me with an XSX expansion card. Bought the 2TB and got the 1TB. Just contact Amazon support via online chat. They’ll probably send a replacement out right away. You just need to return the one in question to avoid additional charges.

Buy directly from Amazon whenever possible. The resellers are a mixed bag and some of them are scammers.

looks like a classic switcharoo scam. It works by someone buying a product, swapping it with something that looks like that product (like a low end CPU, or even something weighed the same as that product) and returning the package, hoping a worker doesn’t look closely. This will happen in any retail setting.

Now amazon is going to try and fuck you with the return process. Similar thing happened to me and they wanted my ID, a police report, and I had to wait like 4 weeks for the entire process. Check out r/amazonprime and a lot of people are having the same experience for high value items. I don’t ever plan to buy pc parts or high value items on amazon anymore. The returns process is completely fucked.
Iâm glad I purchased mine from microcenter. Iâve seen too many of these to feel comfortable buying computer parts from Amazon these days.
