Find it funny that in Future Cars still have so many physical buttons. Yet in 2023, most cars even basic ones are going all touch controls

    Physical climate control button>>>touch screen

It’s just part of the aesthetic of the genre. Realistically it probably wouldn’t have either, or even a steering wheel, and you could just control it by jacking in.

  3. because physical buttons are so much better than touchscreens. i hope we won’t take until 2077 to figure that out again… 😉

I’ve seen a lot of articles lately about car manufacturers thinking about switching back to tactile controls because customers hate touchscreens.

I think its the punk aspect, like for example steampunk, tech is developed enough for people to have artificial limbs that respond to their nerves, but still using steam. I think they went for that aspect with cars having lots of asymmetrical tubes and such around their engines etc, and of buttons, to give that alternate future thingy where things developed a bit different than ours.

Yeah, there are a few contradictory things in the game like that.

Like you said, cars have a lot of buttons…but Cyberpunk cars can drive themselves.

They can communicate with people by calling them on the “holo” using their chips…but you still see people with cell phones.

They can easily record emotions and experiences and share them with each other…but for some reason, they still go to public places to watch them while ignoring each other.

Money exists as paper currency, digitally, and on plastic cards…and (maybe a game mechanic) all 3 magically appear in your bank account. You would think the ability to transfer funds with tech would have gotten rid of at least one of them.

button better than a screen, button gets pressed and it works, screen on the other hand doesnt imo 😀
can be applied in game and irl

I would have liked to see a couple electric cards purely for the potential speed and acceleration benefits

Cyberpunk is an 80’s sci-fi world that’s why, it’s similar to how Fallout’s post apoc punk setting is an 50’s version of the future.

try operating a touch screen when your hand is made of metal

  11. ExplosiveIronSN

I think it just costs less to make

Why have an expensive screen when you can just have it in your skull via the Holo?

The phone thing though. Most everyone uses holocoms but occasionally someone pulls out a phone. Then I looked into who used physical phones… Yorinobu and Mamon Bridgitte in particular… the physical phone you hold up to your face is a secure line.

Too bad both of them underestimated Judy’s BD editing skills.

Give it 54 years and you’ll see

Tbf: in the Cyberpunk setting i would even prefer a good old “No Electronic” Car over everything Else.

Have fun to Hack a Mechanical Motor 🙂

It’s just cyberpunk (small c) esthetic. buttons and nobs and wires going everywhere that do god knows what. everything looking like it came out of an 80’s radioshack.

Like how steampunk is a vision of future with 1800’s technology, the cyberpunk genre is how we imagined the future in the 1980’s. So it makes perfect sense that the car interiors would look like the dashboard of a [Austin Maestro](https://imgs.search.brave.com/id9j8okQGvfkioz-8KabocDriwFxtdil5g_xHQGhub0/rs:fit:860:0:0/g:ce/aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cu/dGVsZWdyYXBoLmNv/LnVrL2NhcnMvaW1h/Z2VzLzIwMjEvMDcv/MDIvMTk4My1NYWVz/dHJvLVZEUC1kYXNo/X3RyYW5zX052QlF6/UU5qdjRCcWJMc3c3/N3I2OUhiMmJ3Q01D/T19JajFYcEZSaHlo/TjNsLWVjbXVPUVhS/aEUuanBnP2ltd2lk/dGg9NDgw)

yea because 2023 designers are fucking morons

they probably figured out they were morons by 2077. Hope it will be the case for us too.

  18. THEdoomslayer94

This universe is the future seen from the eyes of someone from the late 80s/early 90s. It’s going off that aesthetic choice form their POV and not our modern day POV so a lot of things would look or feel retro even in 2077

I hate touch screens and ‘subscribe’ things. They sell product with the bomb necklace.

[Here](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ODhaO1pyKjw&pp=ygUZQ1lCRVJQVU5LIDIwNzcgQ0FSIFJFVklFVw%3D%3D) is great video that I can not recommend enough when it comes to Cyberpunk and cars. Super car designer Frank Stephenson reviews some of the cars and their designs from Cyberpunk. One interesting thing he mentions is that the designs are actually something you would call retro futuristic. Its like how people in 80 would imagine how future cars would look like. Mike Pondsmith, creator of Cyberpunk pen&paper started his world building at 1988 so the look might not be accident. Maybe CDPR wanted to be faithful to original vision and in part might be reason why there is so many buttons.

“The year is 2077. Multiple service companies across the UK still supply vans without built-in aircon”

Imo touch screens should be banned in cars. Even Xzibit used to make it so the screens they installed on pimp my ride wouldn’t work while driving.

So with the use of synthetic oil, it did not destroy the environment?

  24. I kinda want programmable physical buttons in real life to be honest. Put in a bunch of buttons and allow me to customize it to my liking, you can still keep all controls in a touch screen if needed. I don’t know, I just feel like it could be cool.

  25. Critical-Gate4215

Touch screen technology was expensive to make after we used so many of the resources needed in the Great Emu Wars of the 2040s.

I mean when you consider the lore and backstory, they had a cataclysmic event that stagnated most technological development for about 40 years. Theyre living in a post apocalyptic society, and only just barely had made it to “touch screen” era tech before that happened. Makes sense that everything reverted back to physical buttons for awhile.
