Still can game at 1080. I’d personally use this as a Plex server. Would work great.

You likely cannot really upgrade anything outside of the gpu. And at a certain point you’ll be bottlenecked by this miscellaneous i7

lol we’ve got the same thing at work but with 980s in Ali lol

Beneficial_Chest_898
This is an x99 platform.
I would sell the 970s for $70 a piece, and buy a single 1080 or 1070. That i7 is probably the i7 5820k. You can buy an 8 core i7 5960x for $40.
Fuzzy_Logic_4_Life
That’s an Alienware. I had one of those. I like Anthcob’s idea to convert it into a personal server. If you do I’d advise you keep it out of your bedroom so it can “grind” your games while you sleep.

Nice find, we used to joke about launching those from a catapult when their warranty expired at my first desktop job.
Not because they’re bad, but because of that triangular box and how heavy they were.

It’s Alienware. There’s no saving it unfortunately.

Sli build? Fancyyy
Ram_ranchh
This is a sick find m8 maybe it might be worth selling one of the 970s off as sli is dead in the water use that money to recoup the costs of the ssd.you might be able to use this as a htpc or perhaps a homelab allbeit it probably would be better to find a more low powered device God knows how many watts this consumes but it’s probably alot maybe perhaps donate it to one of those charity’s which gives away computers to poorer families Im sure this make some kids. Over the moon could be a good resource to get them a career in IT as well or allow them to enjoy video games at a resolution higher than 144p
Brando6677
Who just dumps an SLI build? Look I understand SLI isn’t what it used to be but you could at least part that sucker out! 😂 oh well you win OP
laobron
You can use the case to build your own custom pc. I’ve done this. Mother board will fit and new power supply. Only thing that won’t work will be the lighting effects on the outside of the case.
MrLamp87
At first I thought the case was placed lying down on its back, and everything was thrown in. Until I looked more…
TheThatGuy1
It looks pretty useless ngl, might as well give it to me so I can dispose of it for you.
permaburner69420
I’m writing this on my Area51 R4, these machines are actually pretty great. I have an i9 7980xe and a 1660 Super in mine, it plays basically anything at 1080 perfectly. Solid PSU and case, tons of room and drive bays. I’ll buy your ODD for $20+shipping if it works, mine died.

Just strip it, sell the components on eBay. You could get a few hundred if you’re lucky

Make it OSRS “botting computer”, easy money with almost non effort, mfing Jagex doesnt give a shit about bots so if you got enough of bots you can make up to 2k~ a week 👌

gut it for parts and sell them

Does “someone threw this out” actually mean “look what I stole” ?!

No it’s not worth upgrading, you can but a new graphics card, none is going to buy hardware that insanely outdated
xxcodemam
Throw it back out.

You should give it to me.

unplug the graphic card and then make monument in the wall
funkthew0rld
Looks like a killer Plex server. If you have a good upload speed you could snare that with a lot of friends
YceiLikeAudis
Who would throw that out? I get that it’s outdated tech but at least the case and storage units can be reused for a newer build, maybe even the PSU.
crazybubba64
Get that liquid cooler replaced, those older alienware coolers get a little funky with age and the pumps tend to go out.
A simple air cooler should be OK.
Dyunodino
Hackintosh it

SLI doesn’t work anymore I was googling SLI in 2023 and found a guy testing it out on several titles. I think it works fine on Tomb Raider and that’s pretty much it

You can give it to me 😁

Get rid of that stock cooler

With a good enough GPU like a used Vega or 2070 and maybe a CPU/RAM upgrade this would be a pretty good 1080/light 1440 gaming system.
X99 might feel too old to be any good but the gains with every new CPU gen aren’t what they used to be whatsoever, Broadwell CPUs have all of the needed instruction sets and raw performance (from the top tier ones at least) matches modern budget CPUs. I’m using an X99 Xeon myself and it does everything I could want it to (sure it probably won’t have a stable 144fps in Cyberpunk, but who would pair a GPU capable of that with such a cheap setup?).

One person said it’s an x99 platform, so let’s go with that assumption.
You can buy a xeon for it to turn it into a private server, or buy both a xeon somewhere along 2697v3 + a 6700xt/3070, which is as far as I’d reccomend safely going. While yes, it most likely won’t bottleneck on new AAA games with a more powerful gpu in it, it will definitely bottleneck on less gpu intensive games, or games that can’t utilize more than a few cores.
For example, destiny 2 has a big bottleneck on my system, I’m playing the game on medium settings just to keep stability, and it still occasionally(but very rarely) drops below 50.
