Cmon Rockstar is a smol indie company cut them some slack

    Let’s be real.

Rockstars business model is selling the same game to the same audience minimum of 2 times if they can get away with it. 3 if they’re lucky. It’s why they stagger the releases so much, P.C. players might get impatient and get a console edition. Console players might try out the PC version for better graphics. And rockstar just kicks back and rakes in the cash.

  3. Of course, this is PR BS. They’d have enough money to hire more people. Their CEO took home an ungodly bonus.

    **BUT**

It’s just a **much** better strategical decision for T2 to release on PC later.

    2 main reasons:

    * **Less neccessary manpower**. Now the technical departments can focus on getting the game working well (optimization) on 3 consoles (PS5 and Series X/S) with 2-3 configurations each (Performance/quality), so 9 at most. That’ll establish the baseline and they’ll receive real data if they need to improve on features like the netcode and anticheat in a closed ecosystem and can test the servers. After console release this department will optimize for 1000s of possible PC configurations (Usually hundreds of thousands, but the future requirements will cut that down). At the same time the art departments can work on additional content for all systems (For future DLCs). No need to split them up to work on different projects
    * **Money**. Some people will double dip due to FOMO, which means more money for T2. If they allow the transfer to PC on release some currency won’t be able to transfer (PS store bought cash, as a hypothetic example). Even more money for T2

Other reasons as well, but those are the major ones.

Surely. More then decade is just too short to start working on a pc port…

Resources means resources, resources doesn’t mean money.

I’m willing to bet the most important reason is to avoid paying for DENUVO protection on a PC release. If they release it on PC a couple of years after they can simply choose a cheaper protection.

Sometimes, I feel bad for small independent companies with a few employees, just trying to make it big. Stay strong!

Do they think they’re actually gaining some kind of sympathy or understanding with statements like that? Because it’s fucking obscene. Studios a fraction of their size, and a thousandth of their budget, can release games on *all* platforms simultaneously. But I’m to believe that *Rockstar*, one of the biggest goddamn corporate juggernaut developers in the entire games business, can’t?

It’s greedy, it’s cynical, and it’s frankly disrespectful. Delay the fucking game a year, then, if you need more time. Stop treating the PC platform as a second class citizen, when in reality it is bigger than all consoles combined.

    Cheap bastards.

*developing game on a PC using dev software*

*Untick ‘PC’ from the list of options on which platform you’re developing the game for*

Damn, looks like we don’t got the resources

  10. It translates into something like:

“We know that we can sell the game three times like GTA V, so first we will release PS5/XS version, then we will release PS6/Next gen Xbox version and after that we will release PC version”

They simply know that there are millions of people that will allow them to triple-dip.

Unless it gets leaked and dropped to 1337x 😈

  12. Olorin_1990

Bad performance on PC at launch causes a lot of great games to get bad press, if I were a developer I’d not promise the PC version until it was done and performance verified.

  13. Makes sense since the PC version will have more files in it. Mostly due to the quality settings. A direct port to PC lots of people will complain so more image and sound files are required. Sound for other supported languages that might now have been supported in the version on console the images due texture settings, shadow quality settings, etc. with user adjustable settings. More settings longer it will take.

Of course DLSS, FSR and XeSS support also take time to get correct so you get a performance improvement instead of decrease.

Companies should be legally required to show payments received from any other company. As easy as a search on google

  15. Known-Pop-8355

Its not the game. Its the trash game dev engine (Rage Engine) theyre using thats outdated asf. Had they used unreal engine or any other dev engine they could export the game to PC easily from the engine with support for current hardware. But of course RS would NEVER use software licensed by another company or have to pay them royalties or anything of the sort.

  16. Wasnt the point of xbox was that its architecture is similar to pc?

  17. DeusKether

Starving indie devs rockstar from struggling indie publisher take-two interactive can barely afford to publish new hidden gem gta VI on a few platforms.

  18. Elden_Born

I am gonna be hated for this but i think it is right, because ‘enough manpower and resources’ they are talking about is the manpower and resources that allow them to optimize and polish the game to their standards.

Surely they could focuse on all platforms and release it on pc at the same time but then it wouldn’t be as polished as their games always are. Either that or they would have to launch it with less content.

It stems from the fact that they are absolute perfectionists imo but of course money doesn’t hurt either.

  19. Jinxed_Disaster

GTA V had no PC port at launch. RDR2 had no PC port at launch. What do you guys expect?

  20. Flamingo_Joe

Holy shit the “why dafuq you lying” guy is a blast from the past, just made me feel like I’m back in the mid 2010s

  21. CyberCrusader76

Damn I haven’t seem that meme is a minute

  22. Stephen1877

They don’t have the resources to take the game without killing their staff either.

  23. dr1ppyblob

Such a weird company. Consoles use AMD hardware so just make it AMD exclusive on PC!

    /s

  24. Euphoric_Campaign691

we got the port for rdr1 now we wait 5 years for the remaster and then another 10 years for the remake and then another 5 for the port of the remake on pc

  25. IsThatASigSauer

You’re fucking joking. No PC release? Really.

  26. Demy1234

Serious reading comprehension needed here. This is just speculation from a former Rockstar employee, not an official statement from the company.

  27. Banzai262

that’s a load of bullshit, expecially when modern consoles are basically pc
