Hey y’all, my dad bought a laptop, and there is this button that we can’t figure out what it is. Have any of you encountered it before?

    Make/Model of laptop?

You can probably look in the user manual

If you turn this picture upside down, it looks like someone whose face has been censored with a bar over their eyes. So I’d say it toggles a privacy feature.

They could be smoking a cigar instead, though. Try to see if you can spot any mafia boss behaviour after pressing it.

  3. Well part of it is a standard power button logo, so it might have to do with that somehow.

Looks like the power symbol and an hourglass combined, so if I had to take a wild guess, probably a sleep button

  5. ChettManly

Probably hibernate since it’s a modified power symbol.

Self destruct HD in case your captured

The laptop came with no manual or documentation?

The best way to find out is to press it. I haven’t had one blow up in my face… yet.

It’s an alternate power button that boots the laptop into a low power mode to run a light Linux distro that’s installed onto a separate storage chip.

It’s meant to allow you to do basic tasks if you don’t want to boot Windows.

That’s a button to turn the laptop on with Dell Latitude On. It was a lighter operating system that could theoretically boot faster than windows, and allow you to do basic PC stuff while conserving battery power. Some laptops that had Latitude On actually had an entire other low-power computer inside them to run it, although others just had the Latitude On OS hidden on a partition of the hard drive.

Here’s a really good video about it from Cathode Ray Dude: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cSoKyMMIxso](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cSoKyMMIxso)

That button causes 17 nukes to go off

I saw this in “The Net”. Don’t push it.

Finally watching a guy speak about fast power on operating systems for hours on end has become useful

  14. There is some ancient text called “manual” that might have the answer to this ancient symbol.

I see power and infinity, it must be the Sheev Palpatine button. “UNLIMITED POWERRRRRRR”

  16. Firemanlouvier

Looks like it’s the “Almost Infinite Power Button”

Gives you just enough power to not have it infinitely.

  17. highspeedfailure

That’s the ole dick twist button

  18. Ok_Error_5835

This is how you enable infinity from jujutsu kaisen

  19. Few-Argument-8486

Thank you for circling it. I don’t think I would have been able to find it otherwise

  20. The laptop didn’t come with a manual? Why are people so against reading the manual, it usually tells just about everything you need to know.

It’s the button for infinite time. Somethings we use after time traveling is invented

That’s a super-pro-ultra-gaming button. Press it and you’ll become so OP you’ll be automatically banned.
    … I honestly dunno.
