  1. Honestly, the “Neon Aesthetic” thing has become so prevalent in the modern day that r/cyberpunk has an explicit “No pictures of modern day cities” rule. All we’re really missing is the chrome.

Dont worry we are getting close. Just give it a few more years.

Realistically it’s only a matter of time but it will be so prohibitively expensive that only the top 10% or so will be able to afford it.

Lower class citizens will be pushed out of pretty much every sector of the job market as those who are augmented will drastically outperform those who are not.

Even blue collar workers will not be safe when one man can do the job of an entire crew. Yeah they will command a higher salary but you only have to pay benefits for one or two people.

Other jobs like call center work and food service will very taken over by AI and robots.

We’ll only have lame cybernetic implants.

Be that an eye, stuff in the brain or Mr. Stud – they will use it to track you in any way possible – watch through your eyes, read thoughts, monitor location…

    Tldr Gary was right

Cybernetic implants manufactured by real life corporations would be 100x more scary than anything that happens in 2077. They already do a damn good job at collecting data on us to sell off to the highest bidder, just think about how much easier and how much more they could gather if their tech was fused to us.

So you want the wealth gap to widen even more? With even the working class divided into people that can afford implants and people who can’t? You want people taking out massive loans to be able to work unskilled labor?

You shouldn’t want any of what’s in this game, it’s a dystopia, look up the damn definition. You can get plenty of neon in east Asia though.

  7. punk_petukh

“Neon aesthetic” is purely… aesthetic. You don’t need high end technology for that and you can see it in some places so it’s also a ✅

  8. chadmummerford

there are plenty of neon aesthetics in a lot of major cities, so it’s really just FDA getting in the way of me getting a sandy.

  9. Wombat1892

So hear me out…. while it’s not *in* you, your phone is both incredibly technologically impressive and basically irreplaceable of you want to participate in society.

  10. RocketGrease

I think an inherent contradiction in these worlds is they have to be super cool so you want to visit them. The cities are dense, full of life and interesting.

So the dystopia portrayal can be a bit … flimsy ? Like without the cartoonishly evil things it would be pretty great

An actual dystopia would be a lot more boring than that I recon

If we ever one day get far enough in technology to have cybernetic implants I hope it’s not like cyberpunk so you don’t need to pour millions into it to get decent implants.

  12. MirrorUniverseCapt

All get is that Cybertruck bullshit? Where the fuck is my Quadra?

  13. SpaceGator3000

Dude if I could double jump and have mantis blades I could tolerate a significantly higher amount of inequality.

  14. NoCommon11

Yup. We are living the dystopia already. Without the cool shit.

  15. MigratingPenguin

Did we have massive famines in the US that killed hundreds of millions of people? Did we have a nuclear war that turned the entire Middle East uninhabitable? Do we have literacy rates around 50% in developed countries?

If no then we’re not currently in the cyberpunk dystopia.
