I’ve been wanting to get my son a gaming PC for Christmas but I don’t know to much about them. Don’t get me wrong. I’m good with computers, but I’m not great when it comes to specs, graphics, and all that stuff. The guy wants 2K for this setup and I’m so nervous I’m gonna over pay. Could you fine people help me out?

Hello OleJohny3Balls, and thank you for your submission to Gaming PC! If you are new please check out our rules over at the wiki [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/gamingpc/wiki/rules)!
We have recently added the useful feature of Title Flair! You can set this manually by clicking Flair under your post once you have submitted your post, but if you missed it in the rules there is a much better way that will automatically flair your post!

To do this simply add what your post is about in brackets before your title. For example for a Build Log you can type [Build Log] before your post so that it looks like this; [Build Log]My new awesome build!, and the bot will automatically set your flair to Build Log! This works for Build Log, Build Showcase, News, Hardware News, Hardware Release, Discussion, and Miscellaneous!

Also remember that this is a place for discussing and sharing our love of Gaming Computers! This is NOT the place for help building or determining what parts you should buy, that is better suited for /r/buildapc. Troubleshooting questions should be directed to /r/techsupport. Thank you again!

*I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please [contact the moderators of this subreddit](/message/compose/?to=/r/gamingpc) if you have any questions or concerns.*

It is not even nearly worth $1000, even with the 1080p monitors included, this is a mid range PC from 2019 with a lot of LED lighting rather than a nice PC

  3. arrrrrrrrrrc

Not worth it, but if you’re down to spend 2k you can get a new pc from 1200-1500 and 165+hz monitors from 120-250 each

  4. thebakingjamaican

build the computer with your son man, you can do it for cheaper than what this guy is selling and your son will not forget this❤️

The GPU must fluctuate in temperature a lot. Cold, then hot, then cold again. At least it’s got the juuuuuuice to let you game all day.

    Ps… No Goals

You can find the same setup for $1000 or less. MicroCenter has all the components in-store. IBuyPower seems good as well, and thee are other great options out there as well. With that, you’ll be sure to have the correct upgrade options when that time comes, with a warranty as well!! They have prebuilt custom pc’s. They also let you customize it and they’ll build it for you, which is way easier and then you learn how to build it as you do upgrades. Im in the middle of deciding which way to go myself for my first gaming PC, so all the info is fresh in my mind. But on top of all of that, tackling that challenge with your son will be 5000 times more worth it, as you will have built something together…
    P.s. Im up for adoption

That’s a monster of a machine, but not worth $2,000. Not worth $1,000 actually. You can buy the parts used for around 500-600 I would gather.

Honestly, I would buy a pre-built system without a GPU, then just get a GPU and PSU to put in.

  8. Hi dad 👉👈 we havent taked in a while but I would also like a gaming pc 🥺

  9. Innovative313

That for 2K? Oh lord, I definitely don’t think it’s worth close to that.

    My opinion of course

  10. Gullible_Silver_9329

I would give him $800-1000 max. The CPU is still great for awhile longer, but it’s a Zen2 system with a gpu that will live only at 1080p for the remainder of its life if you want consistent good frame rates. The monitors are nice and a plus, but also 1080p monitors are a dime a dozen so if they try to jack you up on price just for those, I would just try to buy the pc without the extra frill for 6-700. 64 gigs of RAM is entirely pointless for gaming and people are still doing it for some reason?

Noooo – I just did a build for my coworkers son for 1300 that could lap this thing like playing against a toddler at mario kart. If you have 2k to drop on a PC I will make you a Pc parts picker list and you can just build it with him – it’s not hard. One bitwit/jayztwocentz build guide youtube video and you’ll be set. There is ikea furniture that is more difficult to build than a pc in 2023. Hardest part will be the front I/O cables and installing windows lol. Worst comes to worst, post a help thread on here, hell hmu Ill facetime you idc.

Father to father tho – Youre an awesome dad.

  12. Here build this, slightly over $2k but WAY better, 1440p very high fps , best gaming CPU, fast DDR5 ram (Hynix), 2tb SSD, A-tier PSU on sale ($1 more expensive than the 850w Corsair), 7900xt, monitor and peripherals

Spend Christmas building it with your son, he’ll treasure that memory more than any expensive pre built you can buy.

Do NOT spend $2000 on that. It’s aesthetically pleasing, but not a single core component is top of the line by the current standards.

  14. CloudyMcRowdy

In NO WORLD is this setup worth more than $650. The price of the card new, does not carry over into its value today. I built my kid a very decent rig for $900, brand new everything, all white minus mobo. Could have cut it down a good bit, but then it wouldnt be worth having bought brand new, in a few years. I can send the parts list if you know someone that can put it together for you.

  15. stormshaun7

For $2k you can get the high range for this gen.. Don’t get this

  16. Afraid_Donkey_481

That things is worth MAYBE $1000. Then the hockey puck is worth another grand. Seriously, don’t buy this. Happy to help you spec the parts for your own build if you need.

  17. EricFinnYT

I built my PC with my dad last year and it was an amazing experience! I totally recommend it! If you need help with parts with a specific budget, r/buildapcforme is an amazing place to go to get help from people who know what they’re talking about lol

  18. Since your other question has been answered…my son and I have been tweaking/rebuilding/building gaming PCs this year. I’ve been building them for longer than I would like to admit. It’s a ton of fun. Be brave, pick the parts and build it! For 2k you can build a really great PC.

  19. Material-Junket214

I recommend to put 3 fans as intake on the bottom. The only intake you have in a one fan.

  20. VaposaurusRex

Do not pay even 700$ for that USED set-up

  21. Forsaken-Anybody7138

That’s a rip off…don’t do it! You can get a 3090 or a 3080 for cheap right now, even the 40 series cards are cheap right now. The 20 series cards are old and not worth that much. Right now at all. The 13th gen intel cpus are cheap right now as well, the new ones will be coming out soon.

I7 17000k 13th gen cpu, paired with one of those gpus i posted above, is a good pairing.

Maybe look into prebuilts or gaming laptops?

  22. Witchberry31

Decent, but you might wanna upgrade the GPU. 8GB isn’t enough for newer games in 1440p.

  23. I_have_a_big_p3n1s69

If you can spend 2k on that setup you can get an even better pc if you build one yourself,it’ll also be nice to bond with him by building a pc with him👍

  24. 420Enthusiast4life

Yeaaah not a good deal for that price rather get a pc with maybe 16gb – 32gb ram and a newer gpu instead
