Fuck brand loyalty. I promise you those multi billion dollar companies don’t even know you exist, let alone care about you. Don’t ever be loyal to a brand. I used to love Logitech but after a couple of their peripherals fucked me over, I stopped caring about them at that level. I still use a G305 but only because it was on sale and it’s good. Not because it’s Logitech.

I don’t exactly fanboy but I prefer AMD’s open source practises. In the end price is what decides it for me. Over the years I’ve pretty much flipflopped between the two but in recent years its been all AMD, the price.

I always buy Nvidia because their products work with all programs, and has access to far better upscaling and frame gen. I won’t even consider AMD until they improve their software support, it’s unacceptable to have to worry about if your GPU will even work with the software you want to use. If that makes me a fanboy so be it.

Reminds me of that article where two russian friends had an argument regarding Nvidia Vs AMD. End up with one of them killing the other because they couldn’t agree. Being a fanboy is stupid.
I prefer Nvidia over AMD (yes, I tried both.) Because of dlss, that rtx streamer audio thingy and now I don’t have it because I have an AMD card BUT AMD is really good

I couldn’t give a toss whether I use Intel, Amd, Nvidia ‘I just go with whatever offers me the performance I am looking for the best price vs performance. Admittedly I usually stick with AMD for CPU’s because they always offer something that performs for my needs and are cheaper, and I buy Nvidia at the moment due to the superior RT performance and DLSS. But saying that if things change when I do my next major overhaul / build I could go with Intel and AMD if they offer me a better deal for my money.

CPUs and GPUs are some of the most precise and impressive bits of engineering on the planet. The design and manufacturing that goes into them is nothing short of fucking incredible. You can reduce literally anything down to a stupid simplification like that. Michelangelo’s David is just a rock, Mozart’s Sonatas are just noise, etc.
Microprocessors are incredible. I’m not saying they are worth picking sides over as they are just products, but it’s disingenuous to say they are “just pieces of silicon” even if true from a literal perspective.

I have to admit that there were reasons to go AMD for CPU upgrade multiple times and I just go Intel. Numbers were favorable to AMD but they weren’t crazy different, and AMD is quite a bit better on the power. I simply enjoy the Intel platform and have great luck with them over the years.

x86_64 is x86_64. Litterally indistinguishable by design. To the operating system anyways. The tiebreaker for me, then, is threads * clock / dollar, within the same generation. Manufacturing process makes a big difference here, ie 5nm is superior to 7nm, provided it actually passes tests.
Now. GPUs are largely all the same. Team Christmas Color is supported by Vulkan pretty equally. Current GPUs are pretty strong on both teams.
And then there’s AI. Running AI at scale is _just easier_ on CUDA because it’s _supported by default_. When someone builds a new ML library for or in the community, it’s not even a thought. vLLM only recently, _barely_, recieved ROCm support. And when it works, it works well, but those cases are few and far between.
I despise that Nvidia has a chokehold on the AI compute industry, because the cards are _expensive_. We’re talking a 7 fold increase in price over a similarly performant ROCm card. But the ROCm card is a burden to make work, especially as support is second class. I have been trying for ages with little to no success.

I’ve only been building PCs for about 6 years and only built 2 PCs so far. So far I’ve used Intel CPUs, MSI motherboards, Gigabyte graphics cards, Corsair RAM, EVGA PSU in both because they worked fine in my first PC and so far going on 4 years and been working great in this PC.
When I was ordering parts for my first PC I used Newegg for a couple components, had an issue with one of the orders and Newegg support was so unhelpful I’ve never used them again.

I like to respect both as good technology, but I tend to advocate intel and nvidia more as I keep having friends who have gaming issues related to amd drivers. The drivers usually get updated and fix the problems, but I prefer my tech to work more consistently.

Eh, I only “fanboy” companies that are doing things that I like and offer features I care about. I use Linux so I typically prefer companies that work towards supporting that. I game, so I prefer companies that are better for gaming. I do the occasional compute task for fun so I prefer companies that can do that. I currently use an AMD GPU because it’s (right now) for what I do, I use an AMD CPU just because it was best price to performance at the time.
I’d happily use an Intel GPU if they get more powerful next gen, because I honestly don’t care what brand of colour my CPU or GPU are, so long as they do and support what I want.
