Both are phenomenal for 1080p. The 7800 XT may last longer though, duw to its higher VRAM and AMD’s Fluid Motion Frames.

If you want a little bit raytracing, then 4070. 7800xt has a bit more raw power and vram. Won’t make too much difference though.
You can’t go wrong with either. I chose the 4070 ($550 USD) and have been really happy with it. Idk if I am just very lucky or what but I always get great silicon. I was putting my 4070 through different benchmarks and ingame tests and it was vastly outperforming the reported numbers online. I’m one of the few gamers that hates DLSS/FSR but DLSS 3 with framegen is pretty close to native. This card is strong enough to run most games at native resolution so I opt out of those features.
Neither of them are profitable. GPU mining has been dead for a while now but both of them are just fine for 1920 x 1080 gaming (2K).
Both are about the same price (give or take $50) and in the same range of quality. A couple of different pros and cons but nothing major. I don’t think you can make a bad choice here.
Personally, I prefer the 7800XT bc it’s usually cheaper. In my situation, the rx7800xt is available on amazon for 550 and 4070 goes 600 here. Pricing may vary, but usually, the amd gpu wins. I also prefer having more VRAM over a bit better RT performance. Depends on your use and what games you play, but the only game I can see myself actually uses is cyberpunk, and only that so yeah. Both are great tho bc they’ll easily play any games at high settings with well over 60fps in story driven games.
4070 all day long
It depends on what game you wanna play. Do you wanna play raytracing heavy games then go 4070 if not go amd and get more vram. However from my personal experience nvdia is the more reliable one when it comes to driver support but that is just a personal grudge I had with the previous gen amd cards.
i’m confused about memory difference, how they can be equal if one have 4g more memory. i dont know much about them.
the answer is the same as in every amd vs nvidia gpu.
you want better rt/dlss etc? get nvidia. You want pure performance and more vram? get amd.
Right now you are just asking for personal opinions, which will differ greatly since everyone needs are different. I like RT and DLSS/fg, someone might hate them both. I need nvenc/cudas, someone else doesn’t. I dont care about Vram as long as is above 8gb, someone might want extra. I do care about pricing and vfm, many people dont.
Just check benchmarks on the games you play, compare prices, and make your choice. It’s not like you can go wrong, both cards are good and will deliver.
7800xt: If you want the most performance/FPS and bang for your buck and more Vram.
4070: if you care about RT and DLSS.
Personally I just bought a 7800xt after a few months of research as it just performs a lot better and is $50-100 cheaper. Also it includes the new avatar game if you buy the 7800xt. And overall it is just a lot more future proof…

Depends what you’re looking for, if raytracing is something you interested in rtx 4070, if not AMD is the better option
Depends on what kind of games you play.
If you’re a competitive PVP player, where extra FPS and fidelity can be a competitive advantage, you’ll want the AMD card. If you’re into single/player atmospheric games where you care more about how the environment looks than how it responds (Alan Wake, Cyberpunk 2077), then the Nvidia card will work better for you.
My 6700XT runs every game I play at 1440p 120hz (sometimes 144 or 165) with 0 problems, I think you’ll do fine with either of those
If your psu supports it i can recommend the rx 6950xt they seem to be cheap rn

7800xt performs better on average and is cheaper. Has more vram so it’s more future proof imo. That is my recommendation
I’ll go with 7800XT, DLSS is a nice to have but the hefty price is too much, either way you can’t go wrong with both
4070 can do path tracing cyberpunk at 1440p. The main reason i got it. There’s rumors however of a 4070 super coming out in january, usually this means 5-10% performance for the same price

If you want better ray tracing performance then I’d pick Nvidia, otherwise I’d pick the 7800xt

Try to hunt a RX 6950 XT, you won’t be disappointed.
Either one is good. I think you get more bang for the buck with AMD. DLSS is much better than FRS but it’s apples for apples anymore.
4070 if you use ray tracing and DLSS a lot (obv depends on game choice). Otherwise 7800xt
Bought 7800 XT to play star citizen, giving me a cool 80 fps on 1080p and 50-55 on 1440p. Very content.
I got the 4070 because I think DLSS is an amazing technology but mainly the low power draw.(electricity is very expensive here). The card runs very cool and efficiently.
DLSS is okay, but no mandatory I would say. Still not perfect.
If you don’t care about power draw or DLSS, get the 7800xt.
I also play at 1440p and I just went through this exact situation and I ended up buying the 4070 because I got it open-box from BestBuy for $440 (American). For pure gaming performance, no upscaling or raytracing, I think either option is plenty strong. But the 7800xt is faster according to reviews. If you want to try raytracing and upscaling (dlss is still better than fsr, from what I can tell) then the 4070 would be the better option. After using the 4070 for a couple weeks though, I still don’t think raytracing is worth it. I have to use dlss3 (frame generation) to get comfortably above 60fps in games like Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk with ultra settings and raytracing. I also wanted to try raytracing in other games but even Fortnite still dips below 60fps with noticeable stuttering so I turned it off. ( I am using an AMD 5800x cpu by the way). That being said, it depends on what games you specifically play if this matters or not. If they are the same price I would lean towards the 4070 if you want to try raytracing and dlss, but you aren’t missing out on much if you get the 7800xt. I also like the AMD desktop application more. Long comment, I know, but lastly the 4070 uses much less power though, so if you have to pay a lot for electricity in your region then it would be the better option long-term.
Edit: if I had to do it again and they were the same price, I probably would have bought the 7800xt. Basically do as I say not as I do haha. I used a 3060ti before I had crashing/driver issues with it and then I used a rx580 and then a 6600xt right before getting the 4070. The performance improvement is not as big as I was hoping for but I partially wonder if this is the Nvidia driver overhead issue that people talk about online (AMD GPUs seem to perform better with slower CPUs than Nvidia). I know people say that AMD has had driver issues in the past but right now it seems like Nvidia is the one who is putting in less effort for their drivers. Just look at Starfield. People were trying to push the narrative that AMD prevented Nvidia from getting their GPUs working better but if you follow the leaks online it looks like Nvidia just didn’t give their driver team enough resources. Never once had a game crash when I went back to using the AMD 580 and 6600xt so I guess I am worried about how much effort Nvidia is putting into their drivers right now. Despite all these concerns I still bought a 4070 so what do I know lol.
I recently spent the extra $60 and went with Nvidia, the features like DLSS, frame generation, and Ray tracing at 1440p resolution are absolutely magic and are worth the price difference in my opinion. I recently installed an MSRP model, Asus Dual OC RTX 4070, it was plug and play, install drivers, and I am thrilled with the performance and temperatures.
I bought a 7800XT and was not disappointed. But I think you will not be disappointed with the 4070. I too tried to decide between these two, in the end the additional VRAM and lower cost made me choose the 7800XT.

Ps – do you mean 2k correctly (1080p)? Many people use it incorrectly when they mean 1440p (you could say 2.5k I guess).

Better drivers, Frame Gen + DLSS put it solidly above the 7800XT.
I just got the ASUS TUF 4070 OC and it’s fucking awesome. Tried 4k on my TV with Ray Tracing Ultra in CB2077 and was able to get 50-60 FPS. At 2k with DLSS enabled 90-110.
I bought the XFX 7800XT, Merc edition and it’s a beast. If you want RT and DLSS go with the 4070 but the 7800XT wins in terms of raw power.

If you’re going Nvidia, I’d wait for the rumored Supers to come out. Either faster or current offering may be cheaper.
Otherwise, 7800 XT is pretty neat. Arc A770 16GB could work, but that if you need to ask, it’s probably not the card for you.
