My friend will soon enter the masterrace, I got him a little early Christmas gift; a monstrosity made completely out of my spare parts!

Context: he’s stuck on an OG Xbox One and his only PC is a really slow first gen i3 w/an HDD and no GPU. He wants to play games with us but the Xbox just isn’t great a lot of the time, so the rest of the friend group and I plotted this.

Made from an NZXT S340 we had lying around + a 600W power supply, the heart and soul of a 10 year old OptiPlex, and an RX 5700 I also had spare. Yes, I know, CPU bottleneck city, but it’s something. Best part is that it cost me nothing and I’d never have used these parts otherwise.

    CPU – i7-3770

RAM – 12GB DDR3 (a lovely mix of like 3 kits of RAM, 2×2+2×4, it’ll be fine right?)

    GPU – XFX RX 5700

Storage – 1TB WD Blue SATA SSD

Bonus – GTX 750 1GB I had to use to get the RX 5700 drivers to load so I could see the display. It may stupid but it’s not stupid if it works! 130fps solid in Fortnite w/competitive settings.

Great starter kit! Did the same as a teenager. Well for myself. 😁😁

Please do not give him or let him have a keyboard without F1-12 keys. Just please

Regardless of performance the camaraderie is fucking awesome.

Reminds me of my gamer bros pooling together 300ish bucks for my ps4 back in the day.

    Good shit homie

Even though its not the greatest(looking at you cpu) when I was his age I would’ve absolute loved something like this, great present man

Thats nice… I hope you got a little podium for the GPU tho.

I am doing the same thing for a young coworker of mine who’s been using a “family PC” and still lives with his parents . He asked me to teamviewer on Friday in and see if I could speed it up.. Seen the specs and went “GUH” Celron g1620 with 4g single chan ram and a 200g non ssd trying to run win 10 and tagging 100% memory / cpu/ hd on startup. I told him to bring it into work and I would put some more memory in it. I spent the weekend putting together a PC out of my spare parts for him. So he is bringing in the Family PC tomorrow expecting me to install the memory and I’m going to do that and just be like “it’s after thanksgiving … we can celebrate Christmas already right???…. LOOK UNDER YOR DESK!”

Already preload wallpaper engine, chrome with ublock, drivers, and disabled all microsoft’s bs shit in tasks and services. Not claiming it’s the best pc but it’s got a ssd , 8 core cpu, 16 g of ram and a 1070 and … it’s free no strings attached just from the heart to a 20 YO cool coworker.
