Why do all maelstroms have such weird and revolting skin ? Is it because too many implants ? I love how strange all of them look, the design of all the NPCs in this game is so amazing and unique

It’s likely down having too much ‘borg’ under the skin. Most of the marks are scars from the surgeries, and stitching of the skin over the implants.

  2. Yeah, I think they use pretty heavy augments without caring about their body, so the skin ends up leathery, scarred and with callous.

Some animals also have weird skin, I imagine because they have tons of implants under the skin (plus they do drugs).

I was amazed to find out that they don’t even bleed red anymore (instead it’s a white oily liquid or something)

  4. amhudson02

I figured it was because they used shady back alley rippers

It likely has something to do with their crude way of chipping chrome. You’d need to be careful and make the right cuts in the right places to reduce scarring and ensure the implants fit correctly and Maelstrom just doesn’t care as long as it’s chipped and functional. It probably is even intentional in some cases. To Maelstrom, the scarier and more fucked up you look, the better.

imagine taking showers… must be very cumbersome with all the gaps and holes. I’m surprised they don’t have necrosis.

I would definitely say that it’s scar tissue from around where they have put implants. That dark reddish salmon colored bumpy look is usually what old scar tissue looks like.

Man do I love this game!🤌🏻👌🏻

This is what happens when your skincare regime is a squirt of WD-40

If I recall it right, one of them tell it himself: he asks if someone could get hired for a “decent job” with a face like theirs. When V answers “I guess not” he says “That’s the point, it means joining Maelstrom is for life”. Not exactly these words, but this meaning. I just don’t recall when and where this happens.

  11. I’ve always thought it was scarred/deformed remnant of their original ‘meat’ in most places mixed with cheap synthetic plating and back alley subdermal armor.

They worship chrome and think it’s the next step in evolution they want to get as chromed up as possible.

I take it as in addition to chroming up, it’s an explicit message to the rest of the world they are rejecting anything like civil society

i mean a lot of them probably have scurvy or skin diseases or things like that, vitamins and nutrition are really important to skin health and a lot of these guys probably wouldnt even really need to eat, you can just figure out whatever is left of you needs and have a little tank of pure… that…. in it and swap it out every once in a while.

most of their flesh is gone, its basically just skin stretched over chrome. which kind of makes sense right? you dont think of your organs as “you” its what you can see that really establishes who you think yourself to be.

most people in night city have some kind of augmentation to their brain, so i feel like most people arent really hung up on that and after youre putting chips into your brain, whats the new limit? i feel like the skin is the last thing to go for most people, it would be REALLY hard to stay alive without any skin but still having everything else, so naturally you would mod from the inside out.

When it comes to Maelstrom, they are devoted and extreme followers of the idea to trade their “weak” flesh for the “perfection” of machinery. Hell, one of the cyberpsycho missions, you take down a chick who is “Possessed” by their idea of an A.I. God named Lilith. Their wild but not as bad as scavs. Scavs are kill on site.

Probably a mixture of implant, back Alley surgeries, and skin graphings. Something tells me that maelstrom don’t have access to the most steady handed of rippers.

  17. badchriss

Yeah, their skin looks like it would make old leather seat sounds whenever they move.

    Very quick and dirty overview…

Maelstrom came about pre NC Burn…

There was this group called Inquisitors who believed that all implants were evil.

There main focus was a group called the Metal Warriors and another smaller group called Iron Sights who heavily used implants.

The Inquisitors nearly killed all the Metal Warriors as well as Iron sights.

    The remaining members formed Maelstrom.

After the NC Burn the Inquisitors were all killed, Maelstrom who had embraced Implants become the gang who benefitted the most as they were able to withstand fallout from the Nuclear blast.

This left able to raid and plunder parts of the city nobody else could.

Too many implants and a LOT of drugs, whatever meat is left is hanging on by a thread (called chrome) to life

I was really going we could kit our V out to this degree.

audibly eww’d at this, i never noticed that lol

  22. Just a random observation; it must be awfully uncomfortable living all that borged out. Like, if I wear a thick jacket or a tool belt, it’s getting caught and hung up on everything. These dudes have tubes and pumps and blocks and protuberances everywhere. I hope they never have to run anywhere tight, like an alley or a warehouse. Their cybertubes would start getting unplugged just moving around. Shitty.

  23. Nicole0211

Why can’t my character look like this 🤦‍♀️

  24. Accomplished-Ad-8784

They honestly look really scary.. to a point I can’t really call them human

  25. learnedhandgrenade

Maelstrom? I only see a techno-necromancer from Alpha Centauri.
