Not a huge bump, but it seems like you can sell a 3800X for the same price as a new 5600X, so if you don’t care about losing those extra cores that’s not a bad trade.

And you would loose like two whole cores and some cache, that´s actually more like a downgrade.

I have a 3700x and thought about upgrading, all the benchmark videos I saw (purely gaming) were within 5% of eachother. Some games were even better on the 3700x so I imagine the difference is virtually nothing with the 3800x
I don’t think you’d even see a perceivable difference unless you went 5800x3D – this is my next upgrade.
I would actually consider it a downgrade as you lose extra cores for other tasks.

If you’re close to a microcenter I’d definitely pick up a 5600x3d. Its performance is within 10% of the 5800x3d in games and will be far better than the 5600x.

I did exactly this upgrade, though 2 years ago now. It’s better especially in 1% lows, but if you’re really going to spend money upgrading just shell out the extra for the 5800x3d. It’s a monster upgrade.

If you have a Microcenter nearby and the budget for it, they have a sweet deal on a 7800x3d, motherboard and RAM for $500. Might be out of your price range, but I just got it myself and it’s a huge discount on the CPU alone.

I upgraded from that to a 5700x and saw a 15-25% increase in most games, much bigger jump in rendering stuff. But the 5600x is losing cores. I wouldn’t do that

I always find it strange when people go from 8 cores to 6. Is it that you never really used the 8 cores in the first place or has your priority changed?
For gaming there is a significant jump. For productivity the 3800X will just edge out the 5600.
A quick glance confirms everyone is going to tell you get a 5800X3D which is even faster but cost twice as much.
I’ll ask if you live near a Microcenter to get a 5600X3D?

if you can spare the extra dollars id go for the ryzen 7 5800x3d. i have the r5 5600x and while it is a great processor which as been more than capable of handling anything ive done with it (tarkov, arma3), you might not notice as much of an improvement going from you current processor to the 5600x, as you would like. might as well get the best performing processor (for gaming) thats possible for the socket type
