I believe. Half life Alyx ended with a cliffhanger.
It took 13 years between hl2 episode 2 and Alyx though. We might have to wait a while.
My recommendation if you want to see hl3 : eat a balanced diet and exercise regularly.

Highly doubt, it would, imo, be stupid to continue the story without main writer who left valve, so unless he comes back, Half Life 3 won’t happen
However something that follows up on Half Life Alyx, probably will come out eventually but it doesn’t feel like it’s Half Life 2 Ep.2 follow up, rather it’s connected to what happened to it, but also to HLA, like an alternative universe of sorts, a different timeline
Wait till valves 30th annversary. 😅
They probably waiting for a huge technical leap to make Half Life 3. Clearly they have story in mind with the ending of Half Life Alyx.

Valve is all about innovation
The tech used in Half life 1 was extremely immersive at the time, the story told throughout characters in the world instead of dumb cinematics

Half life alyx for VR, the best VR game out there still. Pc games haven’t gone further in about 15 years besides graphics. So HL3 won’t happen until we get a new type of system, which probably would be Augmented reality. Half life 3 in your living room, or garden.
Valve’s knowledge of the numbering system stops at 2. I wouldn’t count on seeing a half life 3.
But on a more serious note the original half life was revolutionary and it propelled the industry to new standards. The second installment was also really good but not revolutionary. I wouldn’t blame valve if they decided not to take the risk of creating a third game that might not live up to the legacy of the previous 2 and just decided to leave the IP with its legendary status

VR was the next thing that would justify a new HL and we got Alyx instead. We ain’t getting HL3.

Basically, After HL2 each episode got bigger and bigger in scope, and they felt they can not keep up with it compared to the time it took them to make. So Episodes were scrapped.
Then Source 2 came along, and that combined with their ambitions meant no HL3 anytime soon if they were to start fresh. Alyx did come out, and so should more new Half-Life games in time.
There will not be a half life 3 it would be impossible to meet, let alone exceed the expectations
Sure, a small group of people within Valve have been writing code for Half Life 3 for the past 5 years in their spare time. Gabe breaks into their homes and deletes the code at night. So there is no progress.

I think they’re scared to make another game so it doesn’t get less than a 90 on metacritic or bad reviews.
Can you imagine having a mass exodus off of steam because your iconic game that made the company blew ass after 20 years of people waiting. The wait is too long. The hype is too big. It’ll never be what everyone wants it to be.

But wanting to do something doesn’t mean it will pan out
They’re going to come out with Half Life: Alyx 2, then Half Life: Alyx 2 Part 1, then Part 2, then come out with the 8K version with full haptic feedback, then the second version of that.
At this point Valve probably will never give us a “Version 3” of anything just for the memes.
They have apparently tried and scuttled multiple ideas over the years. I lost hope when the writer left and published the supposed plot with different names.

Where did you get news about a new portal? All i can find is from april 23 where a writer says that he would have some ideas.
