Is this why everyone hates Chrome here?

    Yup, exactly.

I use Opera now, which is basically just chrome with a nice new look, but it also blocks ads and even with 8 or so active tabs open its using about 5% of my cpu and less than 2gb’s of memory.

Go to “…” menu item > More tools > Task manager. To see which tab is using up so much cpu and/or RAM.

  3. Lystar86

I had no real qualm with Chrome… but Google’s recent war on AdBlock has me switched back to Firefox as my daily driver.

    >18 opened tabs
We have a master gooner on our hands

  5. darksoulsrolls

I wish I could play cs2 without it crashing halfway through every God damn match

I don’t hate chrome. I really like it, infact.

Memory is there to be used and Windows does a great job of managing it so the PC is super responsive.

Really don’t understand what the issue is here.

  7. I already have Edge if i want to use chromium-style browser, why add another bloat and spyware?

Bloat and spies from Microsoft is enough, i don’t need to bring Google along to live in my PC.

Most of the time, i use Firefox, tho.

  8. XWasTheProblem

Firefox on desktop, Brave on mobile.

    Works wonders for me.

  9. WearStar

Firefox, on PC and your phone, trust me. You will start trashing Chrome in the rest of your life. Like what i did after their storm on Adblock.

  10. prolapsepros

I just try to avoid using google’s stuff when possible

  11. IuseArchbtw97543

My main reason for disliking chrome is the fact, that its proprietary + I generally dislike google for obvious reasons.

  12. Xenoleff

Yes, switch to edge it’s literally the same thing but uses less resources.

  13. Puttness

There’s no point in installing it when you already have Edge which is virtually identical if you want a Chromium browser. I started using Edge a few years ago as my daily driver and it’s not bad at all. I’d rather just have everything synced to my MS account since I already use it for Windows anyway.

You can install uBlock Origin on it and circumvent Youtube’s anti-adblock bullshit too.

  14. HDBlade14

Whats a good alternative? I’ve really never used anything but chrome tbh…

  15. Taterbob75

About once a year or so I’ll download Chrome and try it out and after about fifteen minutes I uninstall and go back to Firefox. It just seems slower and not as user-friendly as Firefox.

  16. beat-sweats

Chrome is dog shit, the fact that they have majority share over browsers is a problem.

  17. itsapotatosalad

It’s fine if you’re not running on a potato. 8gb isn’t enough in general nowadays for a start.

  18. ExtraTNT

Because chromium is not strictly following the web standards and therefore endangering the free web… if you want a browser, which respects developers and the free web, install something based on gecko or khtml (discontinued since September 2023)

  19. Birdo-the-Besto

I use Edge because Chrome was doing this to me as well.

  20. JohnAmonFoconthi

You guys know you can prevent not used tabs from loading, right?

  21. wolviesaurus

Swapped back to Firefox a year ago and haven’t looked back. Now, it’s not like Firefox is particularily lightweight with multiple tabs and content loaded but it’s much more hasslefree than Chrome ever was.

  22. (1) Chrome/Chromium is the web engine for basically everything except Safari and Firefox. As such, Google has amassed a huge amount of power in the way future HTTP/other web protocols will function. Microsoft actually got slapped with an anti-trust lawsuit back in the day for this very issue (plus the fact they bundled it free with Windows).

    (2) Chromium and Gecko (Chrome’s engine v Firefox’s engine) aren’t really that much different in terms of performance. Most of the issue is people loading 20+ browser addons for each tab and keeping 300+ tabs open at a time.

    (3) If you’re privacy-minded then I probably don’t need to tell you why Chrome is *not preferred*.

  23. Tuo_Larips

It spies and theyre now trying to shove ads further down our throats. Sick of it. Bastards never have enough.

  24. Use memory saver if you like to hoard tabs like me.

  25. IlTossico

Probably better hating your PC, not chrome.

  26. cervezaimperial

That was the reason of everyone hating chrome, now is different

  27. Nullifier_

I dislike it because it of course uses a lot of ram, it’s proprietary and it’s Google spyware. I use Firefox on both my PC and phone.

  28. hairynuts427

i didn’t know about any changes until now using brave.

  29. Sniffelheim9

I use Microsoft Edge. It’s very fast and doesn’t use a lot of ram. Plus I get Microsoft points to get free Xbox game pass or gift cards for my PC or soon to be Xbox series x.

  30. Firefox is simply the superior browser in every single way. There is no reason to use Chrome in 2023.

  31. rremmy72

no i hate Chrome because apparently Google has worked its evil fingers into every evil crevice of that app. Did i mention Google is evil?

  32. hatsuseno

The hate is more a meme than anything else. 90% of the complainers keep using it anyway, and given that most of our PC interaction has shifted from desktop native apps to webbrowsers, making them a new kind of OS in some perspectives, it was to be expected anyway.

All that said, go team Firefox!
