The 12700k is probably the best value.
imho buy high end if speed really matters and you can make more money , by doing things faster
In terms of absolute performance, the 7900X is the best. But that 12700k is pretty good value.
You can also try ryzen 5 7800x
Either the 7900 or the 12700K depending on how much you can get out of Quicksync.
12700k for a budget build. any higher and i say pay the extra 100 bucks and get the 7900x, will add longevity to your build

It really depends on how much you video edit. Is a couple of seconds faster worth money to you?

12700K is good if you’re in for a budget build, 12900K if you want most performance dollar per dollar.
7900X has marginal performance for the price bump.

the 7900/x is the best value & overall *potential* performance, because it will be upgradable within a few months here by only swapping the cpu if you find you actually need more cpu performance. the 12900k is already the best for whatever mobo you will buy, so you will be required to buy new mobo too if you want an upgrade down the line.
If you have one near you, some of the Microcenter bundle deals are insanely good. The 7800X3D one in particular is really good and the one I’ve been eyeing for my brother.

Out of curiosity, why no 13/14th gen intel? I know they are problematic in terms of thermals but they are better than 12th gen and aren’t that much more expensive
i’d take the 7900x just for the sake of it being more futureproof (AM5 is new socket, allegedly will be supported through 2026), LGA1700 ends with 14xxx
Picked up the 7900X the other day at microcenter for $280. I’d be surprised if you can find a better deal in the CPU market today

I also use my machine mostly for video editing, I assume you’re using Adobe Premier and maybe Lightroom/Photoshop? The 12700K you’ve got there is a pretty good deal, i’d pick that up if I were you. Imo RAM will make a bigger difference during the editing process, CPU processing power mostly comes into play with rendering and it depends how much a bit of waiting is worth to you.
