    I would boot this up on a pc i do not care about with 0 internet access.

    if its an hdd instead of ssd good chance its failed.

    hdd fail all the time. portable ones fail even more cause they get tossed around.

    if ssd wipe it clean and enjoy.

    Half a TB ain’t much these days for external storage, but for 10 bucks I guess it’s a pretty good deal if you can make use of it.

    Personally I prefer my pocket friendly 5 tb HDD from WD. Bought it new and it cost about the same per GB. ($100 for 5000gb)

  4. Not a steal. 500 GB of an old drive is worth about $10 when you can get a brand new NVMe 500 GB for $30.
