Best method to delid a relidded cpu? It looks like they relidded the CPU with black silicon RTV glue (notably doing a bad job too!)

Just heat and normal delid process? Do I need to apply acetone or alcohol first on the silicone?

  1. I’m also curious how this is done. I’m considering deliding and reliding a cpu with CA glue soon.

If there’s LM underneath, you shouldn’t need heat. If you glue it back, just use a dot on each corner.

Get a razor blade and carefully slide the tip of the edge between the RTV and heatspreader. As soon as the blade goes in you should be able the begin pulling the heatspreader upwards and off. Peel the leftovers off the CPU with a fingernail. Make sure not to scratch anything on the CPU or knock anything off of it.
