Why would they put out such hard work the the red engine only to abandon it?

UE5 engine motto: 1x graphic improvement, 5x system demands.
“The best game engine since the conception of the universe”. -Intel
“When we say game engine, we meant UE5”. -AMD
“….” -Nvidia (didn’t make it to the interview, company building hallway was blocked by gold bricks)

I am really, really hoping CDPR can work some magic and get it to work better with open world games. As much as I enjoyed Jedi Survivor, the stutters are quite annoying. They were bad in Fallen Order too. Really bad.
Dyyrin
Can’t wait for shader compilation stutters. Unreal Engine for what it does on a technical level is insane, but man it’s such a over rated game engine imo.
Relevant_Scallion_38
Good. UE5 is superior.
pc_banana
UE5.3 just introduced some features that’ll help performance. Hopefully they use them!
RadialRacer
I’d have a well-formed opinion but it hasn’t finished compiling yet.
PrecipitousPlatypus
Red Engine is actually pretty good too, so that’s a shame.
ScrwFlandrs
I get stutters and low fps in cyberpunk already on a 3080 and 3800x, not sure if UE5 is gonna make that better or worse
animosityhavoc
game will come out in 4-5 years from now, I’d imagine by then stutters won’t be an issue outside of lacking proper VRAM requirements.
kemosabe19
If only Bethesda would.
Uulugus
Does that mean it’ll be Epic Exclusive as well?

Cyberpunk 2077 with its red engine is going to remain a staple of gaming for a decade. same as FFXV. both visually striking games. a shame we are losing the amazing graphical style of CP2077

I just wont play it if it looks or runs bad
the red engine was already great in Cyberpunk
Hunglike_tictac
Maybe they won’t use 2D paper cutout vehicle and NPC LOD’s. Their in house engine is literally held together by duct tape.
CNR_07
Oh great…

I don’t get any stutters in Remnant 2 or Lords of the Fallen, both UE5 games I’m playing right now. It’s not like it isn’t doable.

Thusly, the game became an unplayable mess. Worse even than the day it was brought in to this benighted world.
TheOneHentaiPrince
Red engine was doing wonders for the performance. Not sure they can manage the seemless part of cyberpunk 2077 with unreal. Hopefully, epic games has a something in the back to help with that.
Gasrim4003
Cool. Another Unreal engine game.
Comfortable-Exit8924
minimum system requirements : 4090 DLSS performance and FG on for smooth 60 fps cinematic experience
Classic-Box-3919
So its the next game right? I was confused at first on why they would change engines for a game already out.

Always good to see gamers talking about game dev like they know what the fuck is up.
Ignorance on reddit is appalling.

Wait what the fuck? Does this means cyberpunk will get unreal engine?
thinkpositivedude
I didn’t know there were so many game engine devs in this sub
Preeminator
UE 5.3 is much better at thread management which greatly reduces stutters, but I’ve been trying an early build of a future release which almost entirely eliminates stuttering on a capable enough system. While this “fix” mainly targets newer systems, older systems can expect a much needed improvement in overall stability which is helpful in the long run.

Unreal is like a website builder, a lean website might be harder to make but will run so much better, unreal feels so bloated, like crazy cpu usage for no reason.

Ah fucks sake, cant wait to see more exclusives on Epic.

Lol it appears some people forgot all the issues with Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077.
It’s weird how gamers keep rewriting this narrative for “epic bad” takes.
It reminds me exactly of all the people who thought Cyberpunk could do no wrong due to the success of the W3, forgetting its state of release.
Stutter fest is the red engine…
surprisebtsx
Its always wow the unreal engine and there aint any good unreal engine games
Arrathem
Unreal Engine ?
Its famous of degrading performance and massive memory leak.
warwolfpilot
The Red Engine source code leak got anything to do with it?
