Claim without any supporting evidence, which is really disappointing from Tom’s Hardware.
The video shows like 6 4090 boxes. If they had so many every week, you think they could (clearly) show more.
The tech complains about the smell, and it probably does stink, but that’s more of a comment about the poor working conditions of the shop than anything. Maybe they should spend some that 4090 repair money on better ventilation.

“Team green” people are so ridiculous. You don’t get a discount for loyalty. The PCI-SIG itself has changed the connector, everyone at this point understands it’s not user error, it’s a poorly designed connector that was rushed to market and didn’t even have a year of shelf life before being shit canned.
Remember when Asus fried one or two motherboards and the internet went insane. Somehow everyone in the techmedia is awfully quiet about this

All this stuff about melting 4090s made me go and check mine. Zero evidence of anything melting at the moment.
Still I encourage owners to check, if anything it gives a bit of peace of mind for a while.
I find it funny how the only people laughing are the ones who have AMD GPUs as if to cope with the fact that they got the shitty inferior product and 99.7% of 4090 users are doing just fine.
Copying this from another thread: 100 x 12 months =1200 units, and let’s add another 1k for non-northridgeFix. That’s 2200, let’s say 2500.
By nov 2022, after only 1 month, 4090 has sold 130k units. Let’s assume after a year, that they have sold minimum 500,000 units, so thats a 0.005 (0.5%) failure rate which is quite low.
Of course, these are assumptions, but even if we have the exact numbers, the failure rate will still be pretty low compared to sales volume. It might be even lower than 0.5%.
Now also keep in mind that NorthridgeFix is the main repair center for Cablemod. Most of those melted 4090s used Cablemod adapters and we know by now that Cablemod adapters are hundred times more likely to melt and they were recalled. So the actual failure rate among non-cablemod users is even lower.
I do really hope more people buy AMD though, so that it can push nvidia to lower prices so I can keep buying the vastly superior RTX xx90 cards for cheaper.
