I think if it’s not set too far into the future, Panam will make an appearance as defacto leader of the Aldecaldos. (also for fan service) We’ll get to see where her leadership has taken them (and how we’ll likely bail the clan out of some mess).
Yorinobu will likely be crucial to the plot. Along with Hanako and perhaps some other Arasaka nobility. (Kei maybe somehow?)
Alt will likely play some role, either the real Alt or the AI using her engram.

Adam Smasher. They set up the option of not killing him. Considering the state he was in if you spare him it’s unlikely he could survive even if being “spared” but it would be interesting to have him come back in a more serious role, maybe he splits off from Arasaka and goes freelance? Depending on the ending you choose it would in theory massively impact his future
Adam could be made a somewhat sympathetic character if done right, he could be the games Gunther Hermann if you have ever played Deus Ex, a “big grey golem” who’s entire life was dedicated to killing people, afraid of being left behind in a rapidly changing world and becoming a relic of a bygone age

It would be cool to have a new protagonist set maybe a decade into the future, but I was thinking they could partially bring V back by having a story about parts of her engram that could be found on the shard that contained Johnny’s engram. Like after she dies, an organization or a ripper-doc ends up with the shard and they manage to restore some of the content that could be temporarily uploaded to the new protagonist… or something like that where V almost becomes like the Silverhand character from CP2077. There could be missions where the V engram character ties up loose ends from the first game while tying the stories together.

Unlike others asking for V… I would say no, no to V and no to those who were close to V. Why?
Because I wouldn’t want to force CDPR to make any specific ending canon. Hell if they want to reference V it should be vague what actually happened to them.
The reason being like I said wouldn’t want an enforced canon ending. Which is one of the things I honestly hate in games with multiple endings and a sequel. Unless they do like with the Witcher and allow you to import your old save to allow the ending to influence the game.

I’m not sure I’d want V or the side characters related to her specifically to come back. I mean, I’d love it if CDPR canonised the exact ending I picked but that would suck for everyone else. I do think it could be interesting if they canonised Johnny going with Alt because I like the idea of his engram causing all sorts of mayhem, but even then I’d understand if it pissed off people who let him take V’s body.
So aside from the 2077 core cast, I think I’d like to see some of the old mercs from 2020. Spider Murphy and Shaitan could still be around, not to mention the elephant in the room that is Morgan Blackhand. Shaitan in particular intrigues me due to being the “good” counterpart to Smasher (the wiki says he takes jobs with serious collateral damage possibilities, but during the raid on the Towers he displays selflessness by fighting Smasher so the rest of the team can escape, so whatever his deal is precisely he’s not a complete monster like Adam).

I believe Bartmoss’ AI was transformed into the Blackwall with the assistance of the Transcendentals, Ghosts, Alt, and Netwatch in Ghost Town. This reveal itself would tie in a lot of shit and be sick, but I’d just like to see some sort of redemption for Rache – any involvement in fighting the AI crisis, really.
We also need to know what’s going on with So Mi. Was this bitch even born a human or is she a rogue AI?
Then, obviously wtf is going on with Blue Eyes? What’s this AI org that’s using proxies to carry out their orders? Was So Mi one of them? Does she become one of them?
A lot of interesting ways this can go in a direct sequel.
