Because it is not an engineering masterpiece…it is big, bulky, battery sucks and it can’t run many games in steam library.
Apple IPhone 15 is technological masterpiece. Apple chips are far more powerful, power efficient, and can run games like resident evil village and death standing. This is technological masterpiece, not some Nintendo Switch rip off with Linux on it
If Apple was to make SteamDeck like device. It would be half the weight, had no active cooling, it would run all games and battery life would be twice as long.
I imagine that Apple spends more money on R&D every year than Valve is worth as a company.
I love how absolutely all the space is being used, even the L shape battery

1. Everyone has praised the steam deck. For its various good points.
2. Using space to limits is a thing all mobile phones do. So much so, that we have almost reached the limit of the “bar” form factor.
3. Your post is just an appreciation post, nothing wrong with it, but steam deck isn’t some underrated unknown thing, it’s a massively successful product, these things have probably been discussed in a lot of places, because famous things do get that.

I mean, it uses pre-existing phone and laptop design, it’s nothing revolutionary. It’s akin to what Apple does, take existing technology and refine it into something slightly better.

Anyone that like that sort of thing know and talk about that …

Did we dispel the theory that they were selling these things at a massive loss, since they end up making an insane amount of money from software sales?
Not sure it’s an engineering masterpiece. Pretty sure it’s like Xbox and Playstation – the hardware would normally be twice as expensive, but they sell at a loss to “get their foot in the door”, and then once you have it, you’re going to buy software for it.
And since this is so much more accessible/approachable than a full-on PC, it’s going to get new people into that massive store that has something for everyone.
Otherwise, it’s just a laptop without the keyboard, a smaller battery, and a tiny screen. Not that amazing.
PSA: Stop worshiping corporations. Expect better. Things are only magic until you’ve gained understanding.

Asking the people that have a Deck… is it really worth it or something that you use for a while and then put away?

The apu only has 4 core and 4 cu at 15w tdp. Barely runs games, can’t hit 1080p which is the minimum resolution anyone should tolerate

The fuck do you mean? Every tech channel and their dog were up in arms about how cool it was, then even more so when Valve’s own videos about it dropped.

Sadly the deck is weak to be called an engineering masterpiece. Thats why I got an Ally, which is far more powerfull, but still far far away from an engineering masterpiece.

It’s exactly the same as an APU laptop with the screen pressed on it instead.

They have – when it released, its not new anymore and people have discussed it to the moon and back, somebody has to only use the search engine to find out

Gamers Nexus made a video about it.
