Why would he talk about 2.0? He’s talking about enemy variety after initial development.

He’s right, but hey CDPR got it right. Bethesda won’t, they still can’t even drop small bug hotfixes. Starfield is dreadful.

I guess this is what your average game-reviewer on youtube is like. Last time I actually listened and watched game reviews was when TotalBiscuit was still around. As A different user pointed out you can make any product be it games or anything else look bleak the moment you isolate a “flaw” and only analyse at it face-value disregarding everything and anything else, as if videogames were all about enemy variety and nothing else, as if the budget itself has anything to do with enemy variety.
It’s always funny seeing these “hot” takes when the critic itself tries so very hard to spin the yearn so heavily in one direction that it looks like they’re objectively right and it genuinely works considering how popular some of these game reviewers are, further cementing the point that people just don’t like forming their own opinions on videogames or just consumer products as a whole.
Mentioning the budget for said games is also a funny topic, as if the entire budget has anything to do with enemy variety as a whole. Kinda how there’s still people out there that say that CDPR fucked up the moment they got Keanu to play Johnny and that it was all a elaborate plan to sell a “broken” game by putting a Hollywood actor on the face of it completely disregarding that the actual devs worked hard and put a lot of love into the game with the tools they had – and it shows in various aspects of said game.
Anyhow, pretty stupid take as usual, and no point in taking it seriously and “checking” out due to design choice such as that is asinine for a “game critic”, completely missing multiple points in the bigger picture, a game can be good and have great qualities even if enemy variety is lacking, because there’s more to a game than that. Even if we look at enemy variety as a whole in terms of gameplay, it just being robots and guys with guns can work and be fun by having unique AI, by actually giving the guys with guns and robots different abilities, equipment, roles in combat and making the AI use what they have in creative ways, by giving a player responsive and fun ways to deal with said enemies in various ways, the latter being what 2.0 update did, there’s always room for improvement even if at face value the enemy variety is nothing original
Even though I personally don’t care what he has to say or think about any game period, it still rubs me the wrong way considering his critique or him “checking out” could be taken a step further just to see how asinine it is, there’s so many games out there that he most definitely didn’t “check out” from that suffered from similar “flaws”.
Edit: Clarified my point better.

You’re only fighting humans and robots in this game, not aliens, I’m confused as to what the expectation was lol
What, do you fire up CoD and complain that there’s no plant people shooting at you with poison needles?
And even then you have snipers, assault specialist, shotgun specialist, pistol goons, melee kamikazes, hackers and heavy weapons specialist to deal with, which sure it’s not a huge rooster of characters but they’re there.

What did he expect, aliens ? Demons ? Space hamsters ?

On Cod you can shoot only at people 2/10.

He has a point though. We really could have used more types of enemies and there are only three types of robots and they’re all pretty lame: typical mechas (centaurs); robots which only difference between them and humans is that you can’t choke them; and drones which are flying on the eyesight for some reason and not high upon the battlefield. Wouldn’t mind having some close combat mechas or flying enemies.

They hated him because he spoke the truth. Keep getting mad at people when they point out the obvious flaws in the things you enjoy, it totally doesnt make you seem like a petulant little baby.

What does him not covering 2.0 have to do with him critiquing the gameβs state at launch?

I guess CP could do with more enemy variety yeah, but it kinda can’t be helped due to the setting. Every enemy is gonna be a robot or a guy with a gun
