Because I just got one for Starfield. If this turns into a normal thing, I’m going to shoot my computer. These constant ads getting shoved down your throat from all possible angles is fucking ridiculous.

Yeah, its pretty annoying. You can turn the login screen ones off.

Go to personalization – lock screen – then uncheck the “get fun facts, tips, tricks, and more on your lock screen”.

I’ve even gotten pop-up notifications, WHILE I WAS PLAYING STARFIELD, advertising starfield on gamepass through the xbox app that apparently is always running in the background.

It is really annoying and more and more so we’re just “Renting” the software and hardware we use from big companies. Not a fan.

  2. I had one on my business laptop, of all places.

  3. Yooo if you’re going to shoot your PC please catch it on video!

Yea as soon as linux is enough gaming friendly (which is getting there really soon thanks to Valve), I’ll switch and never go back to windows.

They’ve been doing this since before launch. Friend of mine still doesn’t shut up about it. They just started doing it for MW3 on Xbox as a splash screen when you first start the console too.

I use a program called “Display Fusion” that allows me control over my lock screen, desktop wallpaper, and other parts of my system (it works on both W10 and W11).

Between that and other tweaks, I don’t see any ads.

Also, where is the shadow on the planets rings?

  8. we linux users can really start feeling even more superior, as microsoft is really starting to make that superiority be more than just a feeling.

My boomer coworker called me to her desk frantically saying there was a virus on her computer… it was a push notification for Deathloop being available on gamepass

  10. If you have “Windows spotlight” set as your lock screen then it’s basically an ad for Microsoft products (usually Bing with the background images), it can provide some pretty wallpapers or you can just set it to pull from a gallery of your favorite photos rather than Microsoft.

Pretty much nuked any violation of privacy from microsoft.

nuked cortana and those pretty hidden files that sniffed on personal data.

I have screenshots display during logout. don’t understand people who accept cookies in websites AND don’t act carefully with their own privacy settings (even if they would do the same as corporation)

  12. There’s one that keeps asking me to upgrade to windows 11.

Reddit opened a dominos ad instead of this post, wth

  14. CarlWellsGrave

I’m confused, are you taking about the little text telling you to play starfield or is this screenshot the ad?

I got fed up with Windows and my latest PC now has Linux. Haven’t figured out how to do anything yet but that’s my only real plan this weekend

Every time Microsoft launches something it’s advertised on Windows login. What grinds my gears are the ads disguised as emails in the new Outlook app.

  17. seeing this, I struggle to put into words how happy I am to have decided to put linux on my current computer

  18. treehann

No, but I usually get nice landscapes and recently this shitty picture of old mechanical gears showed up and I don’t yet know how to make it change. The “like what you see?” feature only shows up when it feels like it.

  19. rainorshinedogs

all the time. i’m not bothered because it looks good. Eventually we’ll start seeing the pretty nature pictures again

The world is tiring of being constantly advertised to

  21. SerinceMatet

This will only get worse for the foreseeable future. I ripped the bandaid a few years back, went Linux, and eventually full Linux.

Don’t shoot your computer, just install Linux.
