Over rendering teeth would be less embarrassing than “we couldn’t be fucked to optimise this for launch”

I watched a video of this. It seems like it’s designed to render EVERYTHING within your view, even if it’s so small that it’s not even a pixel on your screen.

Why do we even need to see teeth?

I just think the cims look ugly. A simpler stylization would have looked and most likely performed better. They aimed for realism but because it’s a city sim, they just don’t hit that level of realsim you need for it to not feel weird and uncanny (even games like Starfield struggle with that).
The hair looks flat, the eyes are dead, the complex clothing is clipping everywhere, skin looks like wax,…etc. And again, so much unnecessary damn detail. Folds in clothes are actaul geometry. And yeah, the teeth are just stupid. As a game artist myself I am genuinly baffled who approved the idea of rendering cims like this especially since the rest of the game isn’t bad looking. The cim style and environmnet just clash.
So yeah, no idea why they spend so much computing power on high detail meshes when it doesn’t even justify it.
Did they provide what should we blame? Their overall incompetence?

I’m going to blame teeth and you can’t stop me. I want my optimized gummy sim people.

Here’s a better question, why the fuck are teeth even an option to render in a CITY BUILDER?

Next update add internal organs for more realism

I don’t play Cities Skylines. But I’ve this exact situation over snd over again in the past 10+ years.
Here’s what they need to do.
1) Shut the fuck. Total silence.
2) Work on optimising the game as much as they can.
3) Drop the optimisation update for everyone to get.
Every game that has gone this route has been extremely successful in getting in the good graces of their customers.

Yeah, but it seems it might be a hair problem: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gxJI7LO2CWc&t=834s](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gxJI7LO2CWc&t=835s) well, there might be a problem with a game trying to render too many details in a game, hair might be just one of many of those.
I’m gonna try it when I go back home.

Dear devs, we are not blaming teeth. We are blaming you.

> “We know the characters require further work, as they are currently missing their LODs which affect some parts of performance. We are working on bringing these to the game along general LODs improvements across all game assets. Characters feature a lot of details that, while seemingly unnecessary now, will become relevant in the future of the project.”
So they do confirm the characters are missing LODs lol
And yes, this is least of their problems as the original thread mentioned lighting pass taking over 60 milliseconds (probably partially due to that geometry). A mess all around
Genocide_69
Nowhere in the developers’ quote do they mention teeth. This is clickbait bullshit based on a reddit post. The author for the article literally says teeth have nothing to do with it. What the fuck is this, please read the article people. If people actually read the first 3 paragraphs they would see this

The devs straight up said there’s no point in anything above 30fps lmao

OnairDileas
Paradox be like 30FPS or there’s the door.

It’s not the teeth themselves it’s a lack of LOD models for the Sims. We can disable them in game right now via the Dev mode and get huge increases in FPS. Just disabling hair only was netting one youtuber an extra 15-20 fps.

“Paradox admitted they had “not achieved the benchmark” targeted for performance, but that they considered the game a long-term project they could continue to improve after launch”. This shouldn’t be the case ever and why the fuck do any companies think this is a good choice?

What a fantastic headline, people wanted more details they got them.

Edit: I hope we get a mod soon that replaces these utterly ridiculous assets with some better looking models.
Edit: Games like Planet [Zoo/Coaster](https://scontent-lhr8-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.6435-9/78202882_971725106522669_8844717334808494080_n.jpg?_nc_cat=107&ccb=1-7&_nc_sid=9b3078&_nc_ohc=Tr-1ZpaGAqsAX8CxYQa&_nc_ht=scontent-lhr8-1.xx&oh=00_AfCbIlMTLP2wY7JtFt2pcDkQNRM2XIa_1L46jnf1E1ThkQ&oe=656843A4) are good examples of how to do varied, interesting, good looking crowds. CS2 should’ve aimed at something like this, maybe slightly less cartoony and less detailed.
I mean, even those characters have teeth but atleast they are not individually modelled teeth with gums.
