Apple announced that the new M3 chip’s GPU will have hardware accelerated mesh shading … which Nvidia included with their RTX 2000 series GPUs in 2018. Congratulations RTX 2000 owners, you have the most cutting edge graphics tech still.

Typical Apple, taking something that has been out for half a decade and adding it to their product as the next big cutting edge thing.

I’m pretty sure the big thing is not the tech, but the fact that said tech can run on a piece of silicon that is also a CPU and the entire SoC consumes a third of the energy required to make the same tech run on a RTX 2k series alone

It may be old tech, but if Apple is able to offer it in a small and energy efficient package, it’s still nice.

As always, Apple ahead of time by finally inventing hardware-accelerated mesh shading

So you’re ignoring dynamic cashing? An industry first and the things that makes them actually cutting edge.

Meanwhile McPro owners clap they have to replace their 7000 usd cute white block for a new one. Lol…

They called me a madman for upgrading from a gtx 970 to rtx 2070 in 2018
I’m just happy that we have more competitors in the GPU market. In a few generations they will be more competitive with Nvidia in the high-end segment.

Wow @ the apple fanboys jumping front of the bus.

Slow is still slow. Sure, it’s way more power efficient but 10fps at high setting is useless also.

2070 super still going strong baby!

I’m actually an old-school Apple fanboy, but I still find it hilarious when Apple gets all keen about something outside their core competency because I know they’re going to drop that shit and pretend it was never important in like a year.
That goes for this mild gaming push, and the headset.
Xserve anyone? Lol.

RTX 2080 idle power consumption is 25W, the whole M2 Max SoC (CPU+GPU) max power consumption is around 35W

Damn and here I thought my M2 Max that work got me is better than my 3070! AWOOOOGa!

Threads like this remind me that this isn’t exactly a place for actual techies and really isn’t far from a console subreddit.
