I don’t want to waste a post if I don’t have to – are SATA power cable extenders generally safe? Like SATA power to power, just to give some additional length to reach a drive? Not changing connector type at any end? Safe?
You should also connect it to 8-pin to 8-pin with pigtailed another 8-pin. And one of the ends connnect to another. Then you can populate all the slots.

this is too safe, try sata to pcie power cable for the full “this is fine” effect.

In all seriousness I bet the 12 pin fails first, or your power supply cable melts. Depends if they’re all connected to the same molex cable.
