So Forsaken is a pretty odd map imo. On one hand it’s layout is just really off, a direct result of it being directly ported from the campaign nearly unaltered. On the other I kind of dig the vibe of an imitation 1980’s American town as envisioned by the USSR, it’s pretty neat. And it also has a bunch of extra side content like the arcade cabinets and the Ronald Raygun side EE. But then again traversing the map is such a weirdly unoptimized experience that you almost spend as much time zip lining and teleporting from one area to the next as you do actually moving through the playable areas which feel really small for a modern zombies map. And despite the small size of these areas I’d argue Forsaken is the easiest map to train on in Cold War with nearly every major area of the map having at least one really easy training spot, an armor station, a crafting station, and at least a few perks to pick up if you go down.
I will say the abomination is actually pretty cool being almost like a Margwa/Hell Hound/Avagadro or Tempest hybrid thing that has a basic melee attack, a high damage charge attack, and a long range low damage but sustained electric beam attack. It’s a decently fun opponent with a good introduction, but by the time of Forsakens release in Cold War’s life cycle I had literally maxed out every weapon and perk upgrade which made the fight far less intimidating than my first encounter with bosses like the Margwa, Panzer, and Brutus. And the wonder weapon, the Chrysalax is fucking awesome. It’s so rare for us to see melee wonder weapons in zombies and even though it’s OP as hell it is still waaaayyy too much fun to use, just slashing through hordes like Jason Voorhees at a rave.
But the Easter Egg and story for this map were, other than the ending, pretty forgettable and predictable tbh. It’s basically just Zykov, the guy who got sent into the Dark Aether 30+ years ago is actually insane and really strong and needs to be stopped. This process ends with Samantha’s apparent death, and in the end we see all of Requiem arrested and Edward Richtofen smiling as his plans come to fruition. It’s not great story wise, the ending has a lot of potential to go somewhere interesting, but it could also flop hard. And the gameplay, well it wasn’t bad, just not great with an okay boss fight and some pretty easy steps leading up to it.
Overall I pretty much agree Forsaken is a 7-ish out of 10, the third best round based map in Cold War, and just sort of disappointing due to an obvious rush and lack of budget for the final map to this game. Which is something we saw with BO3 and 4 as well, a clear reduction in budget and disappointing finale compared to the maps before, and a trend I hope finally dies in Cod 2024.

This is my second favorite map from Cold War behind DM. I think this map is a good way to bring the story to an end, and even if it is a rebuild of a campaign level so what they all were. The perks and layout and the new things added made it more fun. The boss’s fight was better than all the others, IMO. Wonder Weapon is one of the most unique we got in a while being both a melee weapon and smg. Overall, 8.8 has to he the score. I just remembered the arcade games, which were all pretty fun and rewarding. Nacht survival with a pistol being there was very cool as well.

I’d go 6 or 6.5. Love the Chrysalax and the side easter eggs, but the layout is not good and the voice acting especially on Forsaken is terrible.

I have some gripes with this map so I’d probably go with a 6, it really feels uninspired and sorta lame when you think about a conclusion to the story. Seems to be a trend where the last map doesn’t live up to expectations, and this is the worst offender of em all

I think Forsaken was a fun addition to the mode but could’ve used some work to have a better atmosphere, so I give it an 8/10
