School probably gets a pretty sizeable education discount; I’m assuming they’re expecting these to last at least a few years. This is pretty standard for any institution or organization that includes a line item for tech refresh.

the media arts class I took last year went from:
– no internet connection, wired or wireless (you had to plug in a USB with photos, etc)
– some old i5 I don’t remember
– some old Nvidia card I don’t remember
– sounded like a jet engine every time you did something more intensive than basic photoshopping
– old small monitors with terrible colour accuracy
to:
– fast ethernet
– new generation i7 Evo (don’t know specifics)
– rtx 3050s or 3060s
– 27 inch monitors
