Yes, we should only develop games with the graphical fidelity of Terraria moving forward so that people can play all new releases on a graphing calculator.

Ive played every modern “unplayable” game other than the cities skylines 2 on a 2060 and 9600k combo. Jedi survivor, HP legacy, Starfield, CP2077 on launch day.
Only in Jedi did it dip below 60fps, and basically only in some city locations with tonnes of flash going on. Never affected me in combat
I always read these posts like “why doesn’t my expensive hardware meet the expectations I made up in my head?”

Even I only get 30fps in city skylines 2 on a empty map
I get 3fps in the main menu….
It’s absolutely unforgivable for a game to be that unoptomised, especially considering it doesn’t even look that good

That’s another reason to never buy on release

And yet with those parts the devs crutch on upscalers to get the performance it should have had in the first place

You don’t need a high end PC to play the game. You need a high end PC to play the game at high settings

I respect the sentiment, but devs today are kinda damned if you do, damned if you don’t. If the game makes TOO MANY sacrifices to run on older hardware, devs will be criticized for the game looking like shit. If they go nuts and blow the doors off the specs, they’ll be criticized for not catering to older hardware. Can’t win.

Probably the 7th low effort meme about optimization i see in this sub today.

My rule usually is to buy after some months passed, even years, in the meantime I play other good stuff. By that point the game must have had some good patches

Fake frames and no significant improvement in mid tier performance is partially to blame.
Also this happens every few years, think crisis or Witcher 3

“Programming” it’s not even programming it’s just the moron suits up top saying it has to have the most detailed, highest res textures, etc. like no motherfucker I want frames.

Sometimes it’s people complaining that they have to turn off settings their computer can’t run.

I infact work on old/low-medium hardware so if whatever game I make doesn’t run at 120fps+, I optimize it.

It reminds of a programmer who wrote code for the U.S Space Program complaining about how modern day programmers don’t know how to do anything these days.
