It’s not that scary. Device boot order, XMP, IDE or AHCI mode, turning off peripherals you don’t need or on when you need them. Lots of useful stuff in there. With profiles you can always switch back to a previous working profile, and if all else fails, factory reset that puppy. It’s hard to do any real damage.
It’s actually a decent idea to enter the BIOS on any new build to check everything looks okay before attempting a boot or OS install. Check whether all the RAM is there, CPU temps aren’t way high while idling, that kind of stuff.

My favorite past time is clearing my CMOS because I accidentally clicked something while doing something I actually wanted and it caused crashes or no boot

On my 486 you had to configure the HDD info in bios. You actually had to tell the PC what you had. If you messed with the head count or how many cylinders or such, nothing would work.

Speaking of BIOS, I am a bit scared to mess with things on there. I bought some 3200 ram, but I haven’t changed it from the default setting, because when I changed the profile, my pc shit itself. Any chance it’s because I have two different types of ram? Or is it because my motherboard or cpu don’t match up?

The 1st and 2nd gen i7 CPU can have 100% over locks, yes, literally doubling your clockspeed. You’d miss free performance if you’re scared of BIOS.
And not just those CPUs, older CPUs from the late 90s and early 2000s were very oc able.

Google told me that the bios on my mobo would only show me the maximum speeds compatible with my RAM sticks. So me, being a newbie, cranked it all the way up. Then panicked and legit thought I had just killed my PC when it wouldn’t boot up.
The next day I learned I could just pop out the CMOS battery to reset the whole thing. Never again.

The thing with bios at least for me. When needed to adjust something u need first to adapt to it because u know shit. then u finish and don’t touch it for years. then when u install/build something new, u have to start from scratch to learn ur bios because u re again at step 0. Knowledge gets blurry with time.
