Bad way of presenting game requirements. FPS should always in native without fsr/dlss

I think we should be critical over requirements like that.
Alan wake 2 doesn’t mention native anywhere.

We might wakeup in future where 60 FPS will be from FrameGen and its gonna misslead more people.

I would have no issue if they showed resolution from where upscaling was. But also showed native fps and gpu needed for 60 fps

  2. LifterOfHeavy

I agree, putting these technologies into the game requirements can be misleading, dishonest, and shouldn’t be relied on to make your game appear better optimized.

  3. RentonZero

Native is so shit they didn’t want to include it that’s why. Every setting is gonna be high or ultra from the looks of it

Edit: I’m talking about native FPS not native resolution

  4. l_______I

I wish reviewers were actually lowering the score in case of bad performance. DLSS/FSR should be a help for gamers, not for developers.

  5. In future we will have AI generate all graphics, game wont be same for two different players

  6. Eat-my-entire-asshol

Theres no 1440p raytracing requirements listed either. Only 4k or 1080p. Gonna definitely be waiting for reviews on this game

  7. HoroSatre

    1080p Recommended using Performance DLSS/FSR

    Topkek 2023

  8. Dry-Percentage-5648

I absolutely agree with you on this one, OP. I’d be absolutely fine if they needed DLSS/FSR for RTX High/Ultra because it’s still a pretty demanding tech, but those requirements simply scream 0 optimization. And I absolutely hate the fact that it’s becoming a new standard.

  9. lt_catscratch

Fine, i’ll continue playing tetris with my 6600 XT.

  10. squadraRMN

    1080p + performance upscale = watercolor graphics

  11. lasergun23

And 60fps is the absolute Minimum for most pc players, Who really wants to know what hardware do u need to run the Game at 30?

  12. Expired_Milk02

So these people make games soo unoptimization that old GPUs will suck even with dlss?

  13. ArenjiTheLootGod

1080p 60 FPS native is the bare fucking minimum and the targeted hardware for that should be Nvidia 3050s and AMD 6600s. Requiring DLSS/FSR on mid tier cards to get to 60ish FPS at 1080p is unacceptable in 2023 (soon to be 2024).

And the industry has the gall to normalize $70 games with this kind of performance?

Fuck that, I can wait, my Steam backlog is full of games that’ll run just fine.

  14. murden6562

This is what DLSS (a proprietary technology feature) did to the industry.

  15. screamalongsongs

The future is not looking good for budget gaming

  16. DaemonToolsTargaryen

While I agree that specs sheets should not use and mention FG Upscaling etc, but I do hope people remember what this team and engine did with RT in their first outing. Control was by far the best RT implementation till Cyberpunk came around. I have high hopes from the visual perspective from this game and I am all for a game that actually is heavy on hardware because it’s damn breathtaking or horrifying ( depending on the art style )

  17. At this point DLSS isn‘t to play new games on old GPUs but to even be able to play new games with new GPUs

  18. PathlessBullet

The titans of the industry have said that upscaling is the future. Upscaling is here to stay.

  19. hauntedyew

This is outrageous. Those technologies are for keeping things like the 5700G’s iGPU relevant.

  20. nihoc003

I know that people don’t want to accept it.. but upscaling is the future of gaming. Pure rasterization is slowly going to die over the next decade or so

  21. cap7ainskull

What the fuck I can’t even play this on raw GPU without dlss , what the fuck is even the point of a 3070. I swear the devs are just getting lazy with this tech.

  22. Candid_Equipment_296

I know it’s 2023, almost 2024 and games are bigger and takes longer to make and look better and all that but wtf is this? Those specs are insane

  23. __Rosso__

And this is why I am glad I don’t care about newer games

  24. Kvas_HardBass

Even without it, this is a fucking joke of a game

  25. theuntouchable2725

The worst format of system requirements I’ve ever seen.

It’s like trying to do SPC on a process that every 10 minutes, the machinery, the material, the temperature, and the operator changes.

  26. Greennit0

Well you would want to read 4k Pathtracing, GPU N/A then? Below that only 4090s? 😄

  27. astronomymatt

It’s ridiculous how developers are just leaning on crutches like DLSS and the very high end hardware available to just scrape playable FPS.

  28. colossusrageblack

Welcome to the next generation boys, pull out your wallets cuz your tech is outdated. The 4090 is basically a mid range gpu to the newest games based on the performance we’re getting.

  29. BryAlrighty

I can understand showing DLSS/FSR if it’s for the ray tracing modes.. but there’s zero reason to have system requirements recommending it otherwise. Should be native.

  30. DarkCypher255

And another game devs are too lazy to optimise and so rely on DLSS for ‘decent’ performance

  31. BunnyHopThrowaway

Can’t wait to use FSR performance and game at watercolor display mode just to reach ~60 at 1080p medium.

  32. Upstairs-Sky-9790

FSR and DLSS are now just an excuse for game devs to not optimize their game. Fuck them.

  33. Danteynero9

If requirements are presented with DLSS/FSR, you know that the game optimization is straight up doodoo.

  34. AngryDragonoid1

I wonder if this is some Nvidia bs. They’ve been pushing for DLSS adoption industry wide, threatening creators and developers. If a game wants some sponsorship from Nvidia, maybe this is a requirement. It’s wrong, but it might be more Nvidia’s fault than the developers.

  35. BaephBush

With Immortals of Aveum, Starfield, Remnant 2, and now this game (and many others), this whole thing is going exactly as expected: devs don’t optimize their games and are presenting gargantuan system requirements because the technology exists for them to do so.

However, unless the game is hyped up or a smash hit, people won’t buy new hardware for it. Ascendant Studios found out at their direct peril what happens when 1) there isn’t a huge marketing push, 2) their game doesn’t have a very strong pedigree, 3) the overwhelming majority of Steam users don’t have the hardware they demanded, and 4) the game is middling.

This is why Immortals of Aveum has hardly sold at all and has as of this writing only 531 Steam reviews. Ascendant Studios should have known at least the first 3 points. Instead about a month ago they laid off 40 employees because it didn’t sell.

Why people don’t see this coming is beyond me.

This whole thing is utterly insanely asinine at this point. I don’t want Alan Wake 2 to fail (the original is revered), but at the same time I don’t want to literally buy into the kitchen sink mentality that big companies are doing.

Edit: it wouldn’t surprise me at all, given the very slow adoption of new GPUs (Nvidia’s in particular), if this were all a mutual agreement to press hardware sales.

  36. was really excited about most of the games coming out this year, now I’m wondering if my 3050ti will even open new releases a year or two later

  37. The only Way to achieve 4k With rt is with the performance preset it’s crazy… I want the quality preset

  38. buddyyoda

yeah well gaming is going in this direction, whether you like it or not.

  39. thatgirlsnotright

    6600xt medium 1080p WITH upscaling,what BS
