At least 4 For Me, Firebase Z Is a Map I’ll Occasionally Jump In If I Want To Use The Rai K. But Other Than That.. I totally agree with the dart board step in the free Rai K ee and the boss fight being mind numbingly easy. Overall My Rating For Firebase is around 3.5 or 4 out of ten

4/10 I am not a fan of the map layout and some of the features the map brings into the game. The EE has a step that I think is the worst thing I’ve ever had to experience which is playing pokemon with mimics and boss fight was cool until they reused it in about every single way they could. I dare say I hate this map.

The only thing I hate about the map is the Orda during defence rounds past round 30.

A 5 For me, Firebase Z is a okey map but gets boring super quick compared to Mauer Der Toten. The easter egg is not really that fun either and yes the dart board step and boss fight is super boring.

Firebase Z is probably the worst map in Cold War imo. It’s not really bad per se, but it also isn’t all that good either. On one hand the Ray-K wonder weapon is for sure cool as hell and really fun to use, the defense rounds are a good alternative to the dog rounds that actually add a little challenge in comparison particularly when Orda comes in, and this map introduced Peck who’s actually kind of a fun character due to how much of an asshole he is all the time. But on the other hand the EE has some annoying steps which you mostly pointed to in your review, and the map just feels the most generic out of any Cold War map imo, nothing about the map itself really sticks out as particularly unique or interesting. And with that said I’d give the map itself a 5, and when accounting for CW mechanics it rises to about a 6 maybe a 6.5 on my scale. It’s just really forgettable and probably did more to kill the hype with Cold War than anything else, which is unfortunate as this map was effectively DLC 1 and it just didn’t rise to the plate very well at all.

Firebase is the odd one out in Cold War for me. Die Maschine, Mauer, and Forsaken, they’re all fun to play and hop on, they have their charms, and I can easily go into them and have a good time. Even have a tough time ranking which of the three I’d place in order from worst to best, though the #1’s probably Die Maschine. Firebase, meanwhile, is easily the worst map in Cold War, imo. It’s got a lot to dislike about it, though admittedly it has some pros here and there. Let’s go over the cons first.
The map looks boring. Obviously this is a very subjective point, but I think this the first map in the entire Treyarch series where I just didn’t jive with the visuals at all. The village is the most interesting aspect of it, and that’s only about 10% of the entire map, the rest is just a military facility. Really not a fan. This map loves to spam boss enemies in the higher rounds, Mimics in particular. I quite like both the Mimic and the Mangler, but I just feel nothing when one of them spawns in now, because there’s just so many of the bastards. The EE has a few fun steps sprinkled in with either boring busy work, or the Mimic Step, which may be my least favorite EE step… possibly ever? Give credit to Morse Code, at least it *works* when you know what to do. And the boss fight is just a variation of the Orda, and is mind numbingly boring, you could take it out in about 20 seconds with Ring of Fire. I wish there was more of an emphasis on the Dark Aether. Besides the bunny Easter Egg, there’s no sight of it on this map. Assault Rounds. Cool in concept, just don’t really like them in execution, they interrupt the flow of gameplay too much. Possibly an unpopular opinion, but I never really loved the Rai-K. It’s fine, I always enjoy weapons that have multiple ways to use them, and the design’s neat, but like how I consider Firebase to be the odd one out in terms of maps in CW, the Rai-K is the odd one out in terms of Wonder Weapons in CW. Easily my least favorite of them. No intro cutscene. You could argue that Die Maschine didn’t have one either, but I’d say the cinematic trailer counts as one. This was the first map since BO2’s Nuketown to lack an intro cutscene, and combined with the Operator system, really makes the whole map feel like it doesn’t serve much purpose. At least to me. And lastly, I also believe this was the first map since BO2’s Buried to not have a unique PaP camo. I know that’s the most petty shit to dislike, but hey, what can ya do.
However, there are *some* things to like about it. Mangler’s return, and they’re fine! They were never a top tier enemy for me, but it’s neat to see them back, and they don’t get in the way too much. Mimic’s are also pretty cool, though I think the spawn rates should’ve been tweaked on them. I really enjoy how they can mimic perk machines, though I’ll confess that I’ve played Cold War since launch, and I’ve never seen this occur. Which is a shame, because every other hiding spot they take is pretty obvious. The map is very open, while the buildings usually have one or two places to huddle up and defend yourself, which leads to a lot of variety in how you want to play. Also makes it *very* easy, but it’s Cold War, what do you expect? I like that they brought back the iconic laugh for the game over theme. And… uh… that’s kind of it for pros. Huh.
I don’t like this map. I think it’s a 3/10 in any other game. But, Cold War is so fun to play, that it’s mechanics can boost a map like this to greater heights! 5/10 heights, anyway. Easily the low point of Cold War for me, which is a shame, because we were stuck with this and Outbreak for what felt like an eternity before Mauer came along. Thankfully, Mauer was pretty good, but that’s a tale for another time. I’m sure Firebase has it’s fans, but I am *far* from one of them
