  1. Many power adapters that convert an older standard to a newer suffer problems. Either because

    1. The wire gage is insufficient
    2. The connector resistance too high
    3. Power on that rail too low

    Looking at the pictures I’d guess it’s number two here. What happens with some 4090s, just much easier to repair in this case.

  4. Who’s still using molex, my case’s hotswappable esata bay uses a molex but that’s for a hdd/ssd only

    I used to solder those things, because adapters always made a bad connection and ended up as a 4090 situation.

    Looks like they have shorted out which will cause them to get hot and melt
